747 or A346 in F
Booking LHR-BKK-LHR in F and wondered what the relative merits are of the 747 v A346. Presumably 747 better if it's Suites but not sure if they use the 9-seat cabin on this route ?

I would prefer F in the 747, as is used for TG910/1.
However I prefer the timings of the TG916/7 flights and they are an A340. |
10 seat configuration of 747 has the same seats as A340
whether you get 10 or 9 seat suites configuration is a lottery |
F-compartment on B747 is (much) quieter than on A340 because no cockpit (crew) in front of you and thus no "traffic" compared to A340, which can be a bit annoying when you are used to the silence in the Jumbo.
(But nevertheless, main point to make a decision for me are the timings which I prefer for the flights operated by A340.) |

Thanks for the advice - seems best to go with the timings then. I gather the A380 isn't London-bound, but is TG F better on a 380 than a 9-seat 747 ? Is it worth getting the train to CDG ?

747 is better especially if you get the new config. Even if you get the old config, it is still the same seat as the A340 but the cabin is much more spacious. There is just something special about sitting in the nose of a 747.

The old F seats offer no privacy at all... so with a narrow A340 aisle you are sleeping very close to your neighbours! |
I agree that the 747 cabin is much better for F... The nose provides much more comfort and space - and if you get the new cabin with 9 suites, that's a huge bonus in my opinion. ^
Love the nose of a 747! :D Cheers, AG. :-: |

For a couple flying together, the best (and only) choice are the side-by-side middle seats on both the A346 and B744, right?

On the a340 you are probably better off with the pair of 2. On a 747 10F confuguration - and depending how much you want to talk for the whole flight - I think the better seats are window seats. You can join each other for dinner on the guest seat. The pairs of seats on the 10F are a bit stuck out in the middle of the cabin. On the 9F 'suites' version, the pair of seats in the centre is probably ok - not as exposed. |
