LH F or TG F FRA-BKK?

I have a choice on an upcoming trip between LH 772 in F (A340, old first class) and TG 923 in F (also A340, also old first class, AFAICT) for a FRA-BKK segment.

Anyone have any opinions on which is better?

LH for access to the FCT.

for FRA BKK I would choose LH (as said access to FCT) and for BKK FRA TG (both have access to TG F lounge but on TG you get 1 hour massage)
food is better on LH and service better on TG

If they are both A340 take LH.....

1. What about TG 921? Not available

2. 772 should be switching from 340 to 744 soon (they usually do in the summer). That's the best choice if available.

Yes, TG 921 isn't available in F on the day I'm traveling.

I neglected to mention that I'm arriving in FRA on LF H, so I'll have access to at least the FCL either way. Is the FCT much better than the FCL?

Yes!!!!

Hmm, I do have the option of adding another connection to my trip, and flying from FRA to MUC in LH J (which would give me access to the FCT since I'm arriving in FRA in LH F) and then flying to BKK on TG F in a 747.

Is TG F on the 747s better than the a340?

It's better on half (6) the planes and exactly the same on the other half (6) of the planes.

No, it's the same decor and services in both.

Also, you won't get a transfer to your flight from the FCT if your onward flight isn't with an LH Group airline.

I think it's much more convenient to hang out in the FCL for your onward flight and wait for the Thai PA to come get you than trundle off to the FCT and enter Germany, then walk BACK and have to reclear security/immigration if you're flying TG. The FCT isn't meant for connections, that's why they built FCLs as well, for people with connecting flights.

Also: I wouldn't bother with an additional LH J flight to MUC just for a coin flip for a better seat on TG. I guess it would be a shame not to maximize your experience, though... ;)

The additional thing I would factor in is the arrival service TG gives you once you land in BKK. A quick buggy ride and a personal escort through dip immigration and someone at the baggage carousel will ensure a very quick way to exit the airport. I am assuming BKK is your final destination?

I would also be cautious of LH and the current strike patterns. They are bound to continue for some time.

Agree with all of the above. I actually slightly prefer the layout of the FCL. The only real benefit of the FCT is the ride to the plane which you won't get if you're flying out on TG.

OP - I'd keep checking to see if 921 opens up....much better ride than the A340.

LH has in BKK a very similar arrival service for their F passengers as TG

strike: oh yeah! you mention a critical factor for consideration!

Really? I completely disagree. I'll walk to the FCT any day. For me it's a very special experience that I enjoy any time I can. I don't think the FCL stands anywhere in comparison.

That said, I'd rather fly TG than LH to BKK at present. It looks like the A346s FRA-BKK have the old F seats. If I'm wrong someone please tell me. I have the opportunity to swap to LH in a few weeks!

Thanks

there is little comparison... LH F beats TG F any day of the week.

Not if it's old LH F and new (747 or 380) TG F.
