TG got squashed by EK?

Emirates to Operate Six Flights Per Day to Bangkok

It seems you may have better options to fly EK rather than TG

what you guys think?

Not sure why there's such an imbalance on this route. TG's DXB options are severely limited while EK is offering 6x daily... amazing.

To be fair, EK carries way more connecting passengers than TG does on the route.

MH was forced to terminate DXB flighs in 2011 as they couldn't compete, though they're restarting the flights soon.

that's my point.

TG normally only fly daily to Europe with exception some city like London and Frankfurt.

But EK flies to more cities in Europe and more frequent. With 6 daily departure from BKK to DXB, I think it is more convenience to fly EK rather than TG?

Is DXB-BKK 6 times make it the most frequent route for this category?

I know SIN-HKG will probably win for around 4hours flight.

The big mystery is why TG is code-sharing with EK effectively helping them to penetrate TG market-share even further???

Understandable since EK has so many connecting pax, particularly from less major European cities that TG don't really receive.
still don't understand why so many people purchase premium cabin tickets from EU - Asia with EK. Those stops in the middle (often in the early hours of the morning) ruin the whole flight experience and really affect your sleep.

I fly about 15 times a year between UK (Glasgow) and Thailand and to be honest only ever flew TG until I found out that I wasn't getting any mileage for some of my flights, the cheap ones.

I then switched all of my business to EK because you earn mileage even on the cheapest tickets albeit 50% on saver fares.

When you hit silver you also get 25% bonus miles and gold 50% each flight so the miles soon rack up when I would be getting nothing on TG.

Another reason I now prefer EK for my flights to BKK is that they fly from 6 airports in the UK and I will do anything to avoid that hellhole that is LHR you can also say fly from Glasgow and return to Birmingham if you wish.

As for the stop I don't mind it as I can get off and go to the lounge in DXB for a beer and a cigarette (even as a silver) and it breaks the flight up rather than being crammed up in Y for eleven or so hours

I believe for most passengers on DXB-BKK this is just one leg of a longer journey.
I would assume that Thailand (or some secondary places in Asia) is the final destination for most EK customers, but they will come from Europe or some other parts of the world.
For Thai many customers connect (also to primary destinations in Asia/Australia) - EK customers would fly directly there and not touching BKK.

For a fair comparison you would look at the traffic Thai is carrying between BKK and Dubai, the middle east and europe (on their many flights to the area).

I would expect TG to be the needy party for codeshares on the BKK-DXB route. TG pax tend not to fly beyond DXB and TG does not have the PtP traffic to send two planes a day. On the other hand EK has huge traffic transiting through DXB. Adding its code to an EK flight allows TG to offer the flexibility of two daily flights to business pax. I guess that some Thai helpers working in Dubai also like the arrangement. Having just one daily flight to DXB would make it very unattractive for some of the TG clientele.

I agree with Pogonation......I tried the Etihad and Emirates route to Dublin from BKK but went back to TG as the two shorter flights interrupted my sleep patterns and I like to sleep for about 8-9 hours solid, but always travel in First so sleep is very comfortable.

I can pick Paris, Heathrow, Frankfurt etc for the short onward hop to Dublin, which is far more preferable to me than the (often lengthy) wait in Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

I fly BKK-DXB r/t about 1 or 2 times per month. i always fly Thai since the biz class tix are around 33,000 baht and on Emirates it is around 66,000 baht. The timing of the Thai flights is a little more manageable, flying out at 4:15pm and then arriving around 19h30 in Dubai. The return leaves at 20:55 when it is on time and gets you into BKK around 7am. Well, it seems to maximize the working days spent in Dubai and the price is right!

The flights are mostly full, with an occasional empty seat in C, but during Ramadan it's only about half full.

It doesn't effect me as an American, but I would think the airline alliance would have an effect. I wouldn't fly Emirates long haul because it is not part of Star Alliance while THAI is. How about Eva air though ;)

That is why I am on Thai this Thursday DXB-BKK, the SA miles & upgrades are nice and the 10 across 777's in EK Y scare me. I'm in C going for the overnight leg but economy coming back during the day flight, which is painful due to the limited leg room, if only Thai had E+ for Gold's!
