THAI J class is really a Premium Economy
We flew Business class Sydney to Bangkok last week and it was really very very very disappointing. Started from checkin, we were told No seat requested and we were put on standby. We were shocked. Having the fact that I called Thai to reserve our seats 3 times and they couldn't find our request. What a system! And not a nice start. During hot meal service, as we all know Thai never plates their main meal and their menus never change and so out-of-date but they served last 2 choices of hot meal in Al foil from economy class in Business class cabin. I don't care if they have to share meal with economy. It is not my problem. If I buy Business class ticket I should get Business class product. It is unacceptable. It is not a premium product. They should not let al foil to be presented in Business class cabin. After 1st meal service, they ran out of Champagne. Crews were not really well trained, they didn't handle the situation well and by the time they realised to offer 1st class champagne, it was really too late. In my world, this is not what we call"a premium airlines" and Business Class ??? Really?? Maybe they should consider to rename it to Premium Economy. It might sound more appropriate. What a shame!

i fly syd-bkk regularly and i find the business class service excellent. i can ring in advance and book a seat and they are excellent on the phone. i can book the cook if i feel so inclined. i find their manner and service excellent. Yesterday the shanghai noodles were just plain divine.
then again, i don't drink bubbly. Just good reds and they have them

So maybe you just had a bum flight, I've had a couple.
It happens, life is full of ups and downs...
And given it's usually +30% cheaper for my company to fly me TG, I manage my expectations and lap up the fish sauce and service.

I flew SIN-BKK-BOM-BKK-SIN in the past 36 hours and the service was exceptional. Prebooked meals were very good. Seat next to me vacant on BKK-BOM-BKK and outstanding service (discrete placement of duvets on sleeping passengers, full amenity kits on a 4hr flight, 3 course meal - with the best garlic bread yet, no foil, full drinks service, greeted by name)... And an announced private escort through Bombay Airport on both legs.
Consider yourself very lucky as your experience is definitely not the norm.

I get a named greeting now on about 75 per cent of flights. Seems to have got a lot better recently.

I think a lot depends on what your name sounds like :
Phitsanolukowattapornnamsonarungapol would make them feel a lot easier than Wzychozniakowski I guess .
Once they start trying to spell my name I invite them to just use Somkiat and happyness starts spreading all over the plane . Thais are nice people even if troubled with pre ordered meals and such .

I joined ROP since 95 and only been upgraded once having the fact that making gold with them for so many years on. Having said that the last flight SYD-BKK was pouring, BKK-SIN was great. There is no consistency, it depends who you get on the day. But to see al foil been served in J cabin is really shocking and run out Champagne and Perrier,LOL, and want to be called Premium airlines and not only happened in one flight I had this experience before. And unnecessarily I try not to go off during the flight as I want to have a good time but last flight was really bad. They managed to put us upper deck exit row. Having mentioned that TG's first is fabulous which it should be.

TG’s “premium” classes (C/F):
PJs (no/yes)
Dine on demand (no/no)
Choice of starters (no/no)
Choice of deserts (no/no)
Cross catering (yes/yes)
Trolleys and trays in the cabin (yes/no)
Invisible FAs (yes/yes)
Lounges@BKK (bad/good)
Did I forget anything?

Invisible FAs (no in F)
Lounges@BKK (oustanding in F)
Flown TG F about 20/25 times this year so I'm guessing it's not random.
