Qualifying Miles

Hi, I just have a question:
If I book a trip which the departure date is 27/12/2012 and with this flight I earn 5000 miles, and the return date is 5/01/2013 and again 5000 miles,
I will have 10000 miles as Qualifying Miles?

Qualifying Miles

5000 miles in each respective year

yes but that miles will be qualifying miles (status) or bonus miles?

TG status miles don't strictly expire at the end of the calendar year. It's because they have two ways to qualify for gold. One way is to earn 50,000 miles in a single calendar year. The other is to earn 80,000 miles in two calendar years.

So in this case you will have 10,000 qualifying (status) miles at the end of your trip, but only in regard to qualifying for gold in two years. If trying to qualify in a single year, then you'll only have 5,000.

Qualifying miles are what you earn based on the distance of the flight, times the booking class multiplier. For most business class, it's 1.25. For most first class, it's 1.50. For economy it's usually 1.00. But some discounted economy may earn less or even no miles. Basically you have to look up and see what the multiplier is and multiply that by the number of miles to find out how many qualifying miles you will earn.

If there's some special promotion that gives you some bonus miles on top of that, those miles will not be qualifying miles. But those kinds of bonuses are not common within ROP.

Of course even after the calendar year finishes and your status miles with respect to qualifying within that year expire, you still have your miles to use for an award. Total miles earned and status miles are two different things and have different rules for when they expire.

Ok, so this is the current situation:
Now I have 0 status miles, and I booked the flights that I write before.
In my tickets I can read that I will earn 5610 miles for each flights, so I will have a total of 11.220 miles.
After this, can I become Silver member?

Silver tier status is attained with Qualifying Miles earned during 3 evaluation periods:
1) 10,000 Qualifying Miles from the date of enrolment up to December 31 of the same year
2) 10,000 Qualifying Miles during the first complete calendar year after enrolment.
3)15,000 Qualifying Miles from the date of enrolment up to December 31 of the next complete calendar year.

a calendar year defined as January 1 to December 31 of any given year.

So no!

another 3000+ miles and you get silver.

1) say you are a new member who signed up on 1st April 2012.
your qualifying year is 1st April 2012 - 31st Dec 2012

2) say you are a member who signed up in 2011.
your qualifying year is 1st Jan 2012 - 31st Dec 2012
