Updated on THAI First A380

From Hflight.net

It mentioned Airbus confirms TG's first A380-800 will delivery in mid-2012 and THAI will operate it in the third quarter of 2012.

Her name is "Sri Rattana (ศรีรัตนะ)"^ but don't know the registration code.

Now all we need to know is which routes!

We've booked LHR-BKK/BKK-MUC in October 2012. Here's hoping one of them gets the A380!

Presumably once the routes are confirmed they will be subject to change in the way that all TG routes are!

Thai has this on their website:
THAI’s First A380 Enters Final Assembly Line

Thai Airways International’s first Airbus A380 aircraft recently entered the final assembly line in Toulouse, France.

At the final assembly line, the various sections of THAI’s first A380 will be brought together and assembled on a single jig under several phrases prior to being moved to the "final control station" for equipment and systems installation and checks.

THAI is set to receive the first of six A380s on order in the third quarter of 2012 and will operate the aircraft on premier routes between Bangkok to Europe.
Which do they consider their premier routes to Europe is open to debate, but my guess would be LHR as first, and CDG and FRA as second and third, not necessarily in that order. I wouldn't really consider any other European routes as 'premier'.

I am guessing FRA first, then LHR and not CDG. I think that HKG, NRT and SYD are also possible 380 destinations, but with only 6 380s on order I guess only FRA, LHR double daily and SYD/HKG will see the mighty purple tail ^

Why would TG take delivery in September and then wait six months or more before deploying it on the routes it's targeted for?

From the link posted by wheresmybagba
Thai will take delivery of its first A380 in Sep-2012 and then place the aircraft into service that month on the Bangkok-Frankfurt route.
That sounds much more reasonable.

They need times for training pilots and crews in intra-asia (near thier base station) before going to Europe.

Anyone knows how for example SQ did before putting the big birds on longhaul?

I saw SQ 380's in KUL on a few occasions, so I guess they flew between SIN and KUL for training sessions.
