Thai website much cheaper than ITA results
On ITA, KIX-BKK-KIX is from $2900 for 1/22-29.

On the Thai website it is around $1055 (early escape saver advantage=Q booking class) to $1185 (early escape saver advantage=H booking class), and to my surprise both earn *A credit.

The upgradeable fares are in the $3000 range. Not realistic of course.

I looked at ANA ($886) or UAL ($1407), but both route me through HND or NRT and take twice as long with the added flight and layover, for virtually no extra mileage. UA does have a fare for $1021 on 1/23, but again it is twice the travel time.

Also surprised UA doesn't show any Thai options, even though they are *A.

Depending on when & where I buy TG by web, agent or local office. HKG-BKK (in C) always by web, SGN-BKK always at the local office & LAX-BKK always by an agent.

As always, TG is just a mystery to me.

TG website offering special discounted fares whereas on ITA they are published fares...

Some markets allow discounted fares to be sold on each airlines' websites... but some places they are not and you have to go through a travel agent. eg Vietnam, Philippines, Laos...

Miles worth it? Maybe not
The W/V fares are 65,000 for my dates in January.
Q will earn 5180 miles but is 81,000.

So 5180 will cost 16,000yen or USD$208.

Paying .04 a mile just doesn't seem worth it, especially since my MP Premier status (which doesn't mean much) will be gone in 2013.
