TG vs LX

Obviously there will be some bias here but could anyone please share their opinions of TG vs LX in F.

Thanks!

Seats: similar however I prefer LX for sleeping because they provide a proper turndown service with mattress pad, thick duvet and big pillows. With TG you may just be given a blanket which is the same as Y class blanket and that's it!
Food: LX (although an advantage of TG is you can pre-order so you get the exact dish you would like)
Service: LX because it is consistently excellent whereas TG can be inconsistent however when it is good (which IME is most the time) then FA's are much warmer and friendlier than LX FA's and still maintain a high quality of service.
IFE: Similar
Champagne: TG for the Dom
Ground services: TG by a long shot however I would choose LX if departing ZRH because I get access to the LX F lounge (whereas TG F pax only have access to the crappy SEN lounge)

Overall I would say if you are departing from ZRH then take LX and if you are departing from BKK take TG ^

pogonation beat me to the punch, I was going to ask which routes do you want us to compare them on. I like LX and the way they use the little mattress, I have to get TG to use an extra blanket for this and it doesn't work very well if you are restless, yet if I was going to Paris or London, I would take TG as it has a night time service and I can sleep most of the flight.

LX, absolute no brainer.

Resonable comparison, but the bubbles on LX are pretty decent, and at least you know they'll have enough for the journey, unlike TG which is hit and miss. Two bottles loaded for (ironically enough) ZRH-BKK a few weeks ago.

Ground service, well clearly LX at ZRH and TG have the edge at BKK but if tranistting to ZRH-BKK on LX ground staff will also meet you at the gate and take you on a buggy to the lounge. A few months ago I arrived early afternoon on SQ from SIN and despite it being 10 hours to the LX flight ground staff were waiting at the gate and I got a buggy to immigration and through the same diplomatic channel as arriving TG F pax. They use the same ground services company as LH and OS with the staff in light blue suits and red shoes.

If checking in at BKK they will escort you through as well although they can't use TG exclusive channel and you can't use the Spa but as you will already have been in Bangkok you have access to a plethora of much better Spas anyway so no need to get there any earlier to use the one at BKK.

Pleased to hear you have recently had the chance to try LX, as I seem to recall you previously thought they flew via VIE.

LX is also a night flight ex-BKK BTW...

Assume that you do a return trip between BKK and ZRH (or vice versa), then LX is a nobrainer. There can always be an exception, but LX is much much more consistent than TG.

Booking, website, call center,IRROPS..: LX by huge margin.

Lounges: In BKK LX provides escort and buggy and you access the TG F lounge. The diffenrece in BKK is that flying TG allows excellent checkin experience and massage at Spa. In ZRH, LX F lounge and service is great (escort , car to the plane, great lounge), while TG simply uses the SEN lounge (*Gold). So LX wins on average.

Food: LX wins. You can preorder on TG but quality is low.

Wines: equal

Service: LX gives professional consistent service, while you get the grandpa and fat grandma on TG and they mostly do not care.

AVOD: both are not great, small scren

SEAT: Both use an Airbus, but LX wins by a significant margin. TG seats are ageing and poorly maintained. Cushions are disjointed, no mattress, no duvet. LX F seats are not young either but mattress and proper bedding are great.

So, schedule doesn't matter? Right?

TG leaves ZRH for BKK mid-day while LX leaves in the evening. While my vote goes to LX, make sure to visit the LX forum - there were reports about quite dramatic F-class service cuts (as a result of service pattern changes on night flights introduced a few days ago).

BUT, TG may be significantly less expensive, if that's a factor.

This is quite funny.

LX F passengers can use the Thai F lounge in BKK, BUT
TG F passengers cannot use the LX F lounge in Zurich?

Seems a tad unbalanced, no?

I'm surprised TG allows the LX passengers to use their BKK F lounge if the favour is not reciprocated for their own F passengers in Zurich!

That said, TG F catering ex-ZRH is MUCH better than the catering ex-BKK, which is also ironic.

As agreed above, LX F has a better seat, IFE, and catering than TG F, but pricing wise it makes sense when CDG > NRT on TG F is about half of what LX F runs.

Ex-CDG TG catering is better than BKK catering.

Maybe the reason is that TG doesn't want to pay LX for F-lounge usage in ZRH

Not funny, but unpleasant: The designated *alliance first class lounges in ZRH, MUC, FRA and VIE are the LX/LH Senator lounges.

Senator lounges are considered by the LH group somewhat above the regular business class lounges (despite being crap), they are also *alliance gold lounges. I do not agree with this designation either, but as long as it is stated clearly in the rules we have to live with it. http://www.starallianceemployees.com...ett_4.11_b.pdf (page 143)

SQ (and apparently also SA) are far worse in refusing people flying *alliance in their lounges.

100% Correct.

However LX and other airlines can use F lounge in BKK, why, because Thai chatge LX or the other airline money.

Thai dont want to pay for anything on foreign soil, such as other airline lounge use but they already have the expense in BKK, so get as much extra income as pos..

Great service model !!

Are you sure?

I think I remember LX stating that it was restricting access to the F lounge in order to look after it's own passengers etc. etc.

So, I don't think LX even offers an entrance price to other airlines.

Same as LH FCL/FCT.

They do not admit TG, OZ, etc. and I'm quite sure it has nothing to do with these carriers not willing to "pay" for their customers to have access. LH does not WANT their passengers/money, nor apparently does LX.

SQ gets around it by having their silly (and dramatically over-hyped) "Private Room" at SIN.

My only point is only Thai do not want to pay for lounge access to any other airline. That is my only point.
