Has aircraft refurbishment started?

THAI stated earlier this year that it is refurbishing 12 747-400 and 8 777-200 to have AVOD in all classes. This is to be completed in two years.

Has THAI started this process?

I don't think so. Remember that due to Koito Industries (seat manufacturer) problem, TG is short of 5xA330-300 and 1xB777-300 (HS-TKE can't get out of refurbish due to Koito seat problem) that should have been in service by now. This will wreck havoc with the plan to take the 744 and 772 out for refurbish.

I found this today on THAI's website. This presentation was a couple of weeks old. It contains interesting information of aircraft refursbishment dates and acquisition plan. It also has information on fuel hedging, and the level of accountability for approval for various percentages.

http://www.thaiairways.com/about-tha...09_Updated.pdf

The amount of information and the details are more than what I have seen in previous presentations. Someone is doing their homework at THAI.

Very interesting! Thanks for directing to the link. You're right, the slides look very professionally done.

Interesting to see the word "empowerment" in the slide. The day TG employees on the ground are empowered to take steps in irrops will be a great one!

The fleet plan is interesting too. Looks like the A345 is still on the auction block. Long term plan is to have only A380, 772ER, and A330.

Apparently this is the C product chosen by TG for the A380 (pictures by singapore from this thread on airliners.net). I wonder if this will be the product they will put on the 744 and 772's?

Thanks for the link SKL. The enhancements on page 37 look good!

Fascinating presentation. I haven't seen any carrier be that liberal with their booking class/revenue breakdown. Lots of award redemptions out there too (I believe I is just awards for J correct?).

Unfortunately this also seems to confirm the 77W isn't coming into the fleet until 16 June.

Impressive presentation indeed.

- Page 9 shows the market response to the degradation of their F product. Of course, the crisis has been biting too, but the proportion of "cheap" tickets (P) went up from 55% in Jan 09 to over 80% since Jan 10. And TG has offered highly-discounted P fares ex-LHR & FRA. I wonder where the upgraded Thai VVIPs appear in these statistics.

- Page 36. The objectives seem align with comments on FT.

- Page 34: Could anyone explain whether "Jakarta-Europe" and "Europe-Bali" means that TG will fly nonstop between Europe and Jakarta/Bali?

Let's hope that TG will have the money for this ambitious plan.

I read that as meaning a triangle service, much as TG has operated BKK-SYD-BNE-BKK on and off.

So, BKK-CGK-europe-BKK and BKK-DPS-europe-BKK or vice versa would seem logical.

Any idea which European airport would be served (LHR, FRA, ..)?

Why would TG fly direct Europe to Bali ?
This makes no sense ? Why not fly Europe to Phuket instead ?
I don't think that even Garuda does it so why should TG ?

No, it means more connections through BKK from Europe to CGK and DPS. Increased frequency basically on CGK and DPS. Big european market to Bali.

Bali's an unusual one, but it's a popular destination and I don't think Garuda are flying to Europe now.

Indeed, Garuda was blacklisted in Europe and currently does not fly to Europe. But other Asian airlines, such as CX, had been prompt to aggressively pursue the Europe-Bali market. And Garuda plans to resume AMS-Indonesia service soon.

Any updates about refurbishments?

Where do they refurbish the metal, Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Utapao or elsewhere?

What is status on this problem now?? TG seems to still be short on new 330`s.

Does anyone know when/if the Koito situation will be solved?

Cheers
