It seems a bit surprising but the 747s that currently have the old config J & F are some of the youngest in the TG 747 fleet...on the other hand the refurbed ones are the oldest...this plane TGR is about 16 years old. HS-TGG which is old config J & F, and apparently these wont be refurbed, is less than 8 years old. Go figure!

Group 1: HS-TGH - HS-TGP will be retired from passenger service. TGH and TGJ will be converted to cargo. The fate of the rest is currently unknown.
Group 2: HS-TGR - HS-TGX will be retrofitted with new Y seats with PTV but will keep the current generation F and C seat (7443 config). They will likely take over the former 7442 routes when A380 and the retrofitted 744 (see below) enter service.
Group 3: HS-TGY,Z,A,B,F,G will be totally retrofitted in all classes. The plan is to match the product of the A380. This includes new F and full flat C seat.
The 772 will also get PTV in Y.
After this phase of retrofit, TG product consistency will be vastly improved. Y will get PTV on all fleets except the older 333 and AB6. These will be primarily used on short haul and domestic routes anyway. On the premium class side, even if you get last minute aircraft swap, it would not be as devastating since getting angled lie flat seat instead of full flat seat, while that sucks, is not as shocking of getting the barely reclined C seat with antiquate PTV on 7442.

BKK-FRA is almost always being flown by a 744(3) which means the current TG F product. Yes it is not a suite like the ex-9W 77Ws but very good still and current. Substitutions on this route for an older conifg plane are very rare IMHO.

It is nice to see that TG has finally started updating their economy class 747s, and that the HS-TGY,Z,A,B,F,G will get new business an first class in 2012/2013 ^
Wonder what AC will fly to ARN/CPH when this happens?
BTW: does anyone know what configuration TG has chosen on their own 777-300ERs? If only two class, or three with premium economy, they would be a shoe-in for the ARN/CPH flights.
