Transfer time at IAH
I have a trip on Saturday RDU-MEM-IAH-SAL, with only a 40 minute connection time in IAH. I'm coming into Terminal A (Northwest Connect) and leaving out of Terminal E (Continental).
How fast should I run? :D I rarely fly through IAH so I'm unfamiliar with how long it takes to get through it. Any tips? My girlfriend will be taking RDU-IAH-SAL so she'll be waiting for me at the gate with plenty of time to spare. Would they listen to her if she told them I was on the ground and running through the airport? |

Um, pray you pull in on time, and run like the wind. If you're 10 minutes late, you won't make it. A and E are far apart, connected by an underground train outside security. I don't know if there's an airside transfer bus that could save you from having to pass through security again at E, but if not that sounds extremely challenging to me. Chances are the GAs closing out your IAH-SAL will pay no attention to your girlfriend if it's go time.
Here are maps of IAH showing the distance between A and E... as you scroll down the underground train route is indicated by the horizontal red lines. http://www.ifly.com/george-bush-inte...t/terminal-map |
That's pretty much what I figured. It was the only routing available for an award ticket, which is why my girlfriend is flying the direct routing. Thanks for the info about the train being outside security, I was not aware of that.
I'll wear my best running shoes and keep my carry-on light :D |
You will have to take the train and re-clear security. If you had arrived on the South side of Terminal A, you could take a bus and then the TerminaLink to E.

Because you can't catch the CO shuttle buss from A to B, to link up with Terminal Link, youy appear to be in great and deep(ly unrecoverable) kimchi.

Update:
I managed to make it with about half an hour to spare. We landed 20 minutes early and parked close to the shuttle bus. I ran up to the train which was more or less already there and waiting. My last leg was late due to passport checks so everything worked out in my favor. Not something I would want to risk again though. |
