Austin Marathon/Half Marathon - anyone run it? nice course? how hot?
Has anyone run it? I am wondering what the weather will feel like on February 17. Looking at historical records shows that it could really be anything from 40s to 80s(!). Yikes!
Also, any thoughts on the course? It looks kind of hilly.
Would the Intercontinental be a convenient hotel for the start/finish? Thanks!

Hi,
I've done parts of it as part of a relay team. The parts I've done have been pretty, but I can't speak for the whole course. It was also a little hilly for me, but most of the other races I've done have been relatively flat. When I've done it it has been nice weather in the 60s and 70s.
I think the Intercontinental would be fine.

Two or three years ago there was an ice storm the night before and at least for the first part of the race it was sub-freezing (I was an observer - not a participant). The weather does vary quite a bit. But as I recall I think the Chicago Marathon this year had higher temps then Austin! 
The Intercontinental is pretty convienent for the end of the race. If they keep the starting location the same, I believe you will need to drive north 10 or so miles.

I live in AUS and the temp ranges (normal) from 50's to 70's. The last five races I attended - one was rainy, two the weather was perfect, one there was ice on the road and it barely got above 32F (I wore my parka to that race). I think last year's race got warm (80's) towards the latter half but can't 100 percent confirm.
It is really just a crapshoot. Weather varies enormously that time of year. To say it will be a hot, humid event is not necessarily true.

The weather should be in the mid-50s or lower, though freak weather could make it warmer.
They hold the marathon at this time because the weather is more bearable.
Austin has a fair share of hills and the marathon is bound to have a few steep inclines.
I will probably be there around the time of the marathon, so I can give you a mini-tour of Austin if you'd like.
