IAH overnight

Ciao
I will be landing in IAH from AMS with KL663 at 18.55 on 14 august and departing from IAH the day after at 9.35 to HNL.
Any suggestion for a good steak and a not expensive room?
Would love to visit NASA space center but not enough time.
Maybe I will ask for a stopover
Thanks

Matteo

I presume you're on CO going to HNL. How long do you want to sleep? Are you overnighting on a weeknight? This will give us an idea of how far from the airport to suggest to stay and to eat.

A stopover would be worthwhile if you want to see Space Center Houston.

You would definitely need a stopover if you want to see the Space Center. IAH is on the north side of Houston, and the Space Center is south-east of Houston. If you stay near the aiport, there is a not so expensive Hilton Garden Inn which is very close and usually can be had for low rates.
Other chain hotels abound if you have a preference, (sheraton, marriot, etc)

entilzhaFT Feb 16, 2007 10:58 am

There are a handful of cheapish hotels close to Space Center Houston as well.

bull Feb 19, 2007 6:57 am

I will most probably stop only for one night.
Thanks for the info!
What about the restaurant for a Texas style meal!?!?

Try the IAH Marriott

My family & I stayed at the IAH Marriott for one night to catch the a.m. flight to Honolulu.

I looked on-line, found a pretty good deal & I then called the Marriott directly & got a GREAT deal. I think I paid about $109.00 for one night. It was incredibly convenient. Just ride the tram (located below the hotel) right to the airport terminal.

Good luck!

Bull - are you going to have access to a car, or will you be limited to the immediate area of the airport. (Keep in mind that downtown is a good 30 mins from IAH with no traffic)

What's your idea of "Texas style?" Tex-mex? Steak? Barbecue?

Holiday Inn Express, east airport entrance

I just returned from Houston jast night. I stayed in Conroe near family so didn't have much for choices , but stayed at the Baymont ( first time ever for this brand) Clean, comfortable with all the conveniences ( dorm size fridge, microwave, free breakfast etc.) for $75 night.
That being said, I had a wonderful surprise when I stayed the last night at the Holiday Inn Express airport on Will Clayton PKwy. Wanted something close to airport as I had an early flight
Started with a beautiful lobby, and wound up with a great King Suite ( a real suite, not a bedroom with a couch) Really! check this one out. Rate about $105 per night. This is regular rate, not a special. This room was as nice as many of the upscale hotels. I have stayed in.You won't regret this choice, if you can stay in this area.

tex-mex or steak!
Will not have a car.

Super 8 Intercotninental Airport

I wanted to ask something similar because I am going to stay overnight from 27 to 28 of February on my way to UIO. Is the Super 8 any good? I could not find many reviews of the property.
Other question ( may sound stupid for people who have been at IAH). Is there a Bank of America ATM at Terminal E?
Regards

Is there a Bank of America ATM at Terminal E?

There is definitely one in Terminal C (directly across from one of the PC's). C and E are connected so its accessible if you are in E. There is an ATM in E next to the Metropolitan Museum of Art store, but I cant remember if it was Bank of America or not.

No car? You're not going to Space Center Houston. It's an hour drive from the airport with no traffic. I live near it, so I won't be very helpful for restaurants near the airport. I recommend Pappasito's (Tex-Mex). Locations. I think the Humble location is closest to the airport, but I don't know what the cab ride will cost (I ignore the one in the airport because I don't think it's a full Pappasito's - someone correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe you can luck out with a hotel with complimentary shuttle service.

The B of A ATM finder lists ATMs in Terminal A (two), Terminal B and Terminal D - it's been a quite a while since I've flown through IAH. so I cant vouch for the accuracy of the website results.

Here's the link, for future reference (use 77032 as zip cond, or Humble, TX fot the city):

Space Center Houston is an all day deal if you count in driving time. You will need a total of 2 nights in Houston. You could do one down by NASA (look for hotels/motels on NASA Road One and I-45 South) and one night by the airport. There are plenty of good restaurants near NASA. Astronauts like to eat too!

Can you go between terminals without passing through security? For example, between A and C?

I know you can go from C to B inside security using Terminalink connector. Then, you can take a shuttle bus from B67 area to A7 (North A). But, I think there are airlines on the South section of A terminal that you can't get to based on where security is. Check with Continental and http://www.fly2houston.com.

billiam Mar 20, 2007 12:10 pm

There should be an airside bus between A and C, because Continental Connection flies out of A, and thus would be connecting pax between A and C/E.

I believe that the Pappasito's Humble location is the closest to IAH. You are certainly correct with respect to the Pappasito's Term E--it does not have the full menu, although I do make it a regular stop before hopping onto a CO flight if I have not been upgraded! Steaks, on the other hand, are going to be an expensive proposition in Houston, and I believe that most of the steakhouses are either inside the 610 Loop or west of the city.

nt

Oops .,.. disregard. I this in the wrong section.

Long time lurker; first time poster.

I'm stuck in IAH overnight because of the weather today. Since this has happened the last five times I did OKC-PBI, I decided to take a chance and bring an air mattress. So here I am, 3rd floor at the E PC, plotting my sleep.

I know my comment resurrects an ancient thread and doesnt follow the conversation but the thread name was perfect.

So does anyone have any advice on a quiet and dark place to blow up my bed? I dont have the minimotel everyone heard about on NPR, just a standard plaid, yes plaid, colored aerobed. I figure I'll hang out here until 1130 when they close the PC, but then where do I go? E is normally quiet at night, but really bright. B is really dark, but a madhouse during delays. A is probably not an option. And where would I go in C?

Any ideas? Post here, or if we're in the same place, just come on up... I'm the guy with the 7" white laptop on the third floor.
