BBQ is tough, most BBQ places tend to close on the early side. Heck, traditionally, many used to be open only for lunch. None of my usual choices near the airport are open past ten. I did find a Bone Daddys in Grapevine that's open until midnight on Fridays. I've never eaten there, so I can't make a recommendation; it's a small chain known as much for its waitresses (think Hooters) as its food.

Hrmm ok thanks. I guess I'll just grab something to go from the DFW terminal before heading out to the hotel then.

Hi all, I've got an overnight layover in DFW next week, 7pm to 7am and wondered if it's worth trying to get into Dallas for a burger & a beer? I'd be reliant on the DART which I believe takes about an hour to get to downtown Dallas, so after retrieving luggage and checking into my hotel (Regency at Terminal C) would it be too late to head into town?
thank you :) |

The other thing to remember is that after about 8 or shortly after Orange Line only runs every half hour, so you could be looking at almost 3 hours just for transportation and waiting for it. |
Thanks EmailKid, looks like an evening in the Hyatt Regency bar for me :D

Taxi to downtown Grapevine (Main Street) - any number of restaurants and bars. For a burger and beer, I'd go to Jake's Burgers. It's 10 minutes from DFW and a nice historic area to spend an evening/have a meal.

The Dallas Observer chimes in with "The 10 Best Places to Eat Around Dallas-Forth Worth Airport".
The list seems focused on casual fare (burgers, fried chicken, BBQ, ethnic food), which should mean a relatively quick meal (unless there's a line or a wait to be seated). No upscale two-hour dinners here. All will require an Uber, taxi, or rental car. They list drive times from the airport up to about 25 minutes, but they could well take longer during rush hour. http://www.dallasobserver.com/restau...irport-8313262 |

http://www.dallasobserver.com/restau...irport-8313262 4.5 stars on Trip Advisor, 4 stars on yelp, and # 60 out of 2,000+ restaurantjs in Dallas. The big advantage is that there is no traffic or taxi fare or uber/lyft to deal with. Just need to reclear TSA screening and you are set. Not cheap, but worth it for the combination of quality and convenience. |
Hi, I plan to exit DFW during transit.
It will be the first time I'm visiting the US in July, and on my return flight, I have booked a flight itinerary of JFK-DFW-HKG-SIN on AA, with about 19h overnight transit durations at both DFW and HKG. It's my first time at DFW and I've never exited during transits before, so I have a few questions. 1) Will my luggage be checked in all the way to SIN from JFK? Or will I be required to collect them at both DFW and/or HKG? 2) What's the procedure for exiting the airport at DFW? There would bo no checkpoints to pass through I believe, just head for the exit? 3) On return to DFW, what's the procedure? Do I head straight for immigration and customs, and bypass check-in if I have no luggage? |

1) Will my luggage be checked in all the way to SIN from JFK? Or will I be required to collect them at both DFW and/or HKG? Checked luggage need not be touched in DFW. If you HKG/SIN segment is on a oneworld carrier, bags should be checked through in JFK all the way to SIN. 2) What's the procedure for exiting the airport at DFW? There would bo no checkpoints to pass through I believe, just head for the exit? Yes, DFW is wholly domestic, so there are no controls. Proceed with your carry on bag to the exit. 3) On return to DFW, what's the procedure? Do I head straight for immigration and customs, and bypass check-in if I have no luggage? The US has no exit controls, so there is no immigration or customs check. You will bypass the check in counter, and get in line for the TSA security check. TSA will look at your passport to verify that the name on the boarding pass is the same. At the gate, the airline will check your passport to verify that you have the documents needed to legally enter Hong Kong. |
Thanks for your reply. The HKG-SIN section is indeed on oneworld - an AA codeshare with CX.
Is it possible to request retrieving luggage at DFW and/or HKG if I wanted to? Or is there no such option available? If I retrieved my luggage at DFW, it would mean I need to go to the check-in counter on departure, just like any regular flight, right? |

Don't know about HKG, but I suspect with 19 hour layover at DFW they will only check it to DFW. Sounds like what you want, and I don't see an agent giving you a hard time about it.
Either way, if you do want the bags at DFW, just ask the agent at JFK to short-check the bags to DFW (due to the 19 hour layover. When leaving DFW remember to allow sufficient time for the bag re-check process. |

I've read the whole thread and will probably go to Grapevine on my upcoming layover. (Arriving at DFW at 8:45AM and leaving at 3:15PM.) My question is whether Grapevine is also the best option at such a relatively early hour.
Thanks |
