Car return at Dollar HOU - how long to leave?
 
Hi,

Flying from HOU 5pm on a Thursday evening, driving up from Clearwater/NASA area. Would appreciate some local advice on likely driving time (am guessing about 30 mins?) and how long to drop the car, get the shuttle to the terminal and clear security? Unsure how long to leave for the rental shuttle trip and length of security lines?

Will be flying WN, carry on only and checked in online...

you are going against traffic but it does bottleneck near bw8. 30 min drive should be plenty of time. the signs on the freeway also say "next 4 exits : hobby airport" which is completely useless, use airport/college av (i think the 2nd or 3rd exit coming from nasa)

shuttle from dollar to terminal is ~10 mins, that is factoring in the construction on monroe road. surely there will be more frequency of shuttles than hertz.

no clue about security but this should help. hobby is small but the one checkpoint gets congested. http://www.ifly.com/william-p-hobby-airport/wait-times

i'd drive into dollar rent a car by 4pm for a 5pm flight. fyi i'm someone who always cuts it as close as possible.
