Anyone living in Midland?

I'm looking at relocating here for a job opportunity, and from what I can tell, I'll probably be spending most of my weekends out of town. Flights from MAF seem quite expensive, so I'm looking at travel hacking as a way to reduce costs. I'm looking at maximizing my rewards on AA, United, and Southwest (basically the only airlines serving the airport) and signing up for all of their credit cards that offer sign-in bonuses

Got any other tips for keeping costs down on frequent travels out of MAF?

One of my employees grew up in Odessa. She talks about how they would sometimes drive to DFW for a lower fare because it was usually so high out there. As someone who has also lived in places with small airports (ITH, CMI), there usually isn't much you can do unfortunately.

Not too much to say other than air fares at MAF are very tied to oil industry activity since it's basically the only thing in Midland. I recall for work trips paying $500+ r/t just to do Houston-MAF back in 2013/2014 before oil prices crashed.
