Rent self storage to hold luggage for 10 days ?

ok here is my plan..

We are coming from Australia with 6 big luggage bags.

We are spending 1 week in Texas and then heading off
to Seattle and Vegas then back to Texas.

We don't really need all our bags for the 10 day side trip and
we could get away with 2.

If we were to take all 6 bags we would have to pay around $25 per each
per flight and we have 3 flights

6 x 25 = $150 x 3 (flights) =$450 just to take bags we don't need

2 x 25 = $50 x 3 (flights) = $150 + rent smallest storage room $40 total $190

I have seen on the internet the smallest self storage room is around $40 a month. We would pay for month and then pickup the bags when we
get back to DFW.

Can anyone rent a Self Storage room ? Do you need ID ? is international
drivers license ok ?

Thoughts ideas ?

Assuming that you're staying at a hotel in Texas, why not just ask them to store the bags? Most hotels will do that for free. To avoid any problems, you could call/email/fax the hotel prior to arrival to ask. Be sure to indicate the size of the bags *(if they are really "big").

Self storage areas tend to be in odd locations, so you should plan for taxi fares in each direction when you bring the bags and again when you pick them up. There's probably a key deposit requirement and they're likely to ask for a major credit card.

Depending on how many are traveling and what are your planned activities, six plus two bags for about seventeen days seems excessive. You don't seem to be bringing stuff as gifts or items that people have requested for you to bring and leave behind with them, so my advice would be to make things simpler by packing light.
