Better late than never - free WiFi at IAH, HOU

Just saw in Houston Chronicle that Houston airports will be providing free wi-fi by year's end. Not sure why it takes so long or if this is old news, but it'll be nice for those w/o broadband plans. Often see people on the floor outside IAH E UC.

IAH & HOU will get free WIFI connected

Finally! Now you can access a free WIFI at IAH & HOU as well. No more Boingo Hotspot. YAY!

You will get a free WIFI sometime in end of 2013.

Enjoy a free WIFI.

As this topic is specific to 2 airports in the same area, we'll move this over to the Texas forum, where it will likely be merged with the existing thread on the same topic.

Moderator action

Yes, it will.

These issues pertaining to airports are generally best handled in a destination forum.

So can anyone confirm if this is actually running (free WiFi)? I'm confused because I'm seeing the same thing said in press releases over the last several years. And do they really restrict to 45 mins of free time?

Aug 10th, still Boingo, they have an ad supported free, but it's too slow to be of much use.

Now that smartphones are so common, free wifi is less of a thrill. One can use their own bandwidth.

When I was in IAH in November it was still Boingo for bucks, although they were offering 45 minutes of WiFi for free. Looks like unlimited free WiFi won't be coming to IAH until the second half of 2014.

Angry Free wifi at IAH

After careful consideration it is my opinion that the free wifi at IAH sucks.

As this is not a general travel topic, we'll move this to the more appropriate destination forum. Thanks. /JY1024, TravelBuzz co-moderator

That was my experience too. Tethered to my phone instead (hooray free tethering on T-Mobile).
