DFW to modify gates at Terminal D for A380

Late in February rumors came out that DFW is looking to modify gates D15 and D16 to make room for an A380. The airport refrained from announcing who the carrier was, and the carrier has yet to say anything. The possible contenders would be BA, EK, LH (long shot), QF (running into financial issues), QR. I think of those the most likely would be British Airways, Emirates (largest A380 fleet in world), or Qatar. Qatar launches service from DOH to DFW this summer, maybe they switch to the A380 in October once the new gate is functioning.

I don't know if the plans have been signed off yet and/or if construction has started, but this will be great for DFW to get an A380 service.

Interesting @:-)

Catching up to IAH ;)

I would bet on BA, DFW being a Ginormeous oneworld hub @:-)

Agreed. On my last LHR-DFW BA flight, I vaguely remember the FA saying the 747s days were numbered from DFW.

Idk that is a possibility, but with the amount of BA flights out of DFW, would they remove the 747 and possibly another flight on a 777 in favor of a full A380 once a day? I guess the demand is there for that size at once, but on EK the flight to DXB is always at least 95% full the expansion makes sense at 1 a day on an A380...just logistically speaking especially with the largest A380 fleet in the world

When they will deploy the A380 to DFW? On which airlines is it?

I think that's the point of this thread, we don't know @:-)

they likely aren't building it with a commitment from anyone.

also there isn't sufficient demand for EK, if anything IAH will get A380 within the next 2 years.

I believe there is a commitment from someone, there was an article in the DMN stating at this time they're keeping the airline private. Could be bs but I doubt it.

OK then i'm almost certain it is/was BA.

I don't think there is an economical way to run A380 on QF7.

Another possibility is Korean Air.

It makes sense for DFW to prepare 1 gate as more airlines add the A380.

Emirates is it

EK A380 will be a great starter to DFW's A380 offerings. I'm curious to see if BA and QF will follow suit. I would love to see a QF A380 at DFW...

I don't think Emirates bringing the A380 will cause others to do the same, but I am surprised that they beat BA to the punch.
