Carnivoracious!

Barn Door is a long time local classic for steak. Atmosphere is decidedly not fancy (think red check tablecloths) more like a big family restaurant. Prices are reasonable, menu un-fussy but some great steaks. The homemade rolls are to die for.

If you'd go for your beef in the form of fajitas, try the place that purportedly started the craze - La Fogata, on Vance Jackson, easy to get to, between IH-10 and 410.

Love Cappy's but not a first (or second) choice for steak. Same owner has la Fonda on Main for terrific Mex and TexMex food, head and shoulders above the tourist trap places like Mi Tierra.

Now I'm in charge of finding a nice steakhouse - good steaks but not the prices

Like to know this for Austin.

Paloma Blanca on Broadway offers the best Mexican food in town and shouldn't be missed.

Fiesta is a great time to be in San Antonio, with kids or without.

Depends on how much you want to spend and what area you'll be in. Fogo, Vince Young, Ruth Chris, Eddie Vs, III Forks, etc.

Staying downtown. Prefer casual over fancy.

Try the Salt Lick or Stubbs. both are bbq places but can provide a good steak.

but public transportation is just a block away, downtown SA about 6 miles.

I am open to any and all suggestions - hate hearing "we're bored", which
you know will be heard anyway.;)

Are you not going to consider going to the amusement parks of fiesta Texas or Seaworld? I know they are generally overpriced but my niece (5 years old) and nephew (7 years old) loved them. And it would be a good place to not get bored!

if you want steak, not BBQ, go to Chama Gaucha. It is an elegant, all you can eat Brazilian steak house.

Obviously, we have Seaworld and Six Flags.

There is a wine trail on Hwy 290.

Fredricksburg is a cute town, about 1 hour NW of SAT.

If you decide to do Austin, go 281 to 290, not 35

If you like Rodeo and horses, check out tejasrodeo.com. Fun for the whole family.

If you like beer, check out Beethoven's, a German choir with a drinking problem. Open since 1867. Tell Jason I sent you.

Checking on SW as I write, and have been jotting down all the things to do during Fiesta. Wondering if we need to spend the extra $$ for the Family Adventure, Behind the Scenes, or Seafari tours. May go back for the water
park there. Are any of these tours or the water park worth the extra money?

Going to the Caverns for sure, and the Missions. Plus Riverwalk.

A rodeo sounds like so much fun - what a TX thing to do! I'll check it out. And thanks for the workaround for 35. We've been to several Brazilian Steak houses before and they always fill you up.

Is Paciugo Gelato worth a trip - looks so good.

Seaworld is a day's worth of fun without any extra tours. I haven't been to the water park since it became a separate ticket but it is nice. With the cool front that just blew through, it's not even forecast to hit 85 while you are here. So it won't be as if you need a place to cool off.

Thinking of Thursday for SW - nice maybe 80 cloudy day. May go back for the water park Saturday or Sunday when it is supposed to be mid-80's.

That Rodeo sounds like a lot of fun.

It's pretty good. It originally started in Dallas, but it has expanded to a lot of other states over the last few years.
