Strange DFW AA Terminals Question
 

How does it work when one's outbound flight departs from one terminal and one's return flight arrives at a different one as far as baggage claim and parking go? Baggage claim is outside security, yet the Skylink train is accessed inside security if one needs to return to one's car parked at the original terminal.

Use the Terminal Link shuttle bus, a free service located outside security.

Like ESpen36 said.. use the shuttle. I find it easier to just park in the Express parking. That shuttle takes you straight to your car and it's almost half the cost.

Disagree rather significantly with using the landside Terminal Link shuttle. I used to commute to/from DFW regularly.

Land, deplane, and take Skylink to where your car is. Drive your car back to baggage claim, where you can park adjacent to the terminal in 1 hour parking. Go inside and get your bags and leave.

Not only do you not have to lug your bags onto and off of the shuttle, but you also can kill 15 minutes you'd otherwise be spending standing around the baggage claim waiting for your bags. Or the shuttle.

Or walk inside security from one terminal to the other and pick up car, then drive back to luggage. Especially after a long flight a 15 minute walk keeps the blood clots under control and saves a trip to the gym.

This is the best method. The terminal link vans are definitely the one experience I can do without at DFW... routing that can take a while to get to your stop, etc. Fortunately I don't check bags 99.9% of the time...

I believe that one hour parking at each terminal is on the arrivals level; follow signs to arrivals and enter the garage from the upper level. The whole front row should be 1 hour parking and valet.

I agree, this is how I do it (or walk as the other poster said). The bags have usually just finished coming up about the time I get back to baggage claim saving me 15-20 minutes.

If you are planning on parking at the terminal, I would just use one of the several Valet companies. That way they monitor your flight arrival gate and will have your car at the location of the correct terminal. It's only a few dollars more than parking in the terminal, and completely removes that problem.

Otherwise I will end up using the Express Lots, which nicely have dedicated vans for each terminal. Unlike off-airport lots which you can sometimes spend 30 minutes touring 5 different terminals before they finally decide to head back to the lot.

One other option, depending on how long you are going to be gone for, especially with parking at the terminal, is hire a car service. For ~$80 you can be dropped off and picked up by private sedan. Considering $20+ per day, its not too bad if you are gone more than 2 days.

FreedomparkDFW is a great service - one I really depend on. They were there long before the airport tried to run them off and have survived all of the attempts to ruin their business model by the DFW board.

Great value, great service and ALWAYS waiting on you when you deplane. From aircraft door, with a carry-on, I'm in my car in less than 3-4 minutes.

I second, or third, the idea of valet parking at DFW. I use The Airport Valet, they take my car off site, under cover, and it's waiting for me at the appropriate gate when I return. Usually about 20 minutes from deplaning to leaving the airport for home.

BTW-do flights to/from the same city tend to operate from the same terminal? I know on DL in ATL they do (not absolutely, but generally).

No. The same flight on one day may depart from one terminal while the same flight the next day could be in a different terminal. It's also quite common that the Terminal changes between the time the flight becomes active and when it is ultimately assigned its final gate - which is why it's a good idea to check the flight status before heading to the airport or on the monitors in the terminal when connecting.

The exceptions are International flights which depart from Terminal D and Domestic Eagle flights which depart from Terminal B.
