Getting from DFW to Ft. Worth
I have a trip to Ft. Worth planned in a few weeks, staying at the Omni next to the Convention Center. I'm not planning to rent a car. Are there any great transfer options other than a cab? There seems to be a train service, but I'm not sure it's easy/convenient to use. I know some of you pros will have some great suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help.

Super Shuttle.
The train is far from convenient or easy. |
Here's the train info: http://www.trinityrailwayexpress.org
To get to the train from the terminal, you have to take two(!) shuttle buses. The train schedule is sporadic, with trains as close as 15 minutes apart during rush hour, but 90 minutes apart midday. There's no service at all on Sundays. |
Thanks for your help

Super Shuttle is about your only friend...

If you get to the Omni, it's VERY easy to use the train to get to Fort Worth. Red or Blue light rail (stop right at the convention center) to Union Station (next stop westbound), transfer to abovemenitoned TRE.

The OP is staying at the Fort Worth Omni, not the Dallas Omni.

Can't comment on the other, but I've taken SuperShuttle to the Ft. Worth Omni and the Hilton, a few blocks away. Typical SuperShuttle experience - sometimes you're first off, sometimes the last. Still, really is the best/cheapest option.

Yes, I'll be at the Omni in Ft. Worth by the convention center. It looks like there are a couple of shuttle services: checker and SuperShuttle. Is one better/quicker than the other?

Late arrival one time broke the camel's back. In order to maximize whatever they were trying to do, they took several of us all the way north to Carrolton before heading south toward the Medical Center area (Dallasites will how far out of the way it is). At any rate, a later shuttle arrived in the same area BEFORE us (heard it on the dispatch radio), so poor or no organization  :td: Yes, shuttle is the most economical way to go, as to which one ;) EmailKid, not hotel conscious while living in Fort Worth all those years ago |
Thanks again for all your help. I guess I will try the shuttle service and hope for the best.
Emailkid, I just heard about a colleague today who was trying to get to Omni Ft Worth and SuperShuttle wound up taking him to the Omni in Dallas. Maybe I'll need to keep your instructions so I can get back:) |
The Omni in Fort Worth has a transportation info link on its WEB page. http://www.omnihotels.com/FindAHotel...irections.aspx

I don't know if taken your trip already but I frequently take Yellow Shuttle (next to SUperShuttle) and they are $1 cheaper and have a regular circuit to Fort Worth (stopping at the major hotels). You may wait in the airport for about 15 minutes for other passengers but it is pretty direct (roughly 20-25 minutes from airport to hotel). This is during business hours (for almost the past 3 months) so can't speak to off-hours service.
I took SuperShuttle once and it was a tour of two towns prior to Ft. Worth. In reverse - you can typically stand at the Sheraton or Hilton and get into an unreserved shuttle within 30 minutes from either company as I believe SuperShuttle has the early AM until 1pm and Yellow Taxi has the routes/pickup until later in the evening. This works out pretty well assuming you allow 2 hrs before your flight don't worry about scheduling. |
