Not a problem

Unless your arrival from PIT is delayed more than 30-35 minutes you should be fine. Linkage between terminals is good and airside so no need to re-clear security. Do agree about checking a monitor on arrival to confirm the connecting gate - but that's pretty much a no-brainer.

Yup, that sums it up nicely.

It's well within the MCT. Only suggestion is to look at the alternative. What happens if you misconnect? Is there a next flight and when is it?

What to do with 5am arrival 8-hour layover at IAH

I am catching an UA red-eye from PTY to IAH that's arriving at 5am with 8 hours to spare before onward flight to SFO. First time in Houston. What is the best thing to do?

1. Hang out at the airport (not sure if I'll have access to UA lounge with P ticket)
2. Catch some sleep at Marriott
3. Explore the city (knowing businesses might not be open till much later)

Thanks in advance.

Rent a car and head into town. By the time you've cleared CBP and picked up the car and driven into Houston, Catalina Coffee will probably be open (6:30am), I'd start there.

If you're looking for breakfast at a Houston institution, head from Catalina to the Breakfast Klub, opens at 7. True southern breakfast.

After that, maybe head over to Hermann Park and walk around. Japanese gardens, duck pond, etc. Assuming your flight is at 1PM, that's probably all the time you'll actually have. If you do have time for an early lunch, go to Underbelly.

I miss Houston. :)

True southern breakfast sounds pretty tempting. Thanks for the tip.

On arrival, see if there's an earlier flight available. Depending on carrier and booking class. You may be able to change for free or a minimal fee. If it's available, take it.

After a red eye, with an 8-hour wait and a further MIDCON flight, I'd take the day room at any one of a # of airport hotels. Breakfast, sleep, swim in the pool, workout at the gym or whatever and you will arrive in SFO refreshed.

Day room at an airport hotel, but negotiate the times you'll have the room. Standard seems to be from 9 am to 4-5 pm, which isn't what you want. If you have status to get a guaranteed late check out, just reserve the room for the previous night and tell them (several times!) when you'll be arriving.

Thought I'd bring up an old thread as my first venture beyond the BA and Hilton forums!!

I've been researching for a little while about things to do at IAH as I'm arriving BA F with a 5hr layover before AA F domestic to LAX.

I've come to the conclusion I don't have time to leave the airport (not sure I want to anyway) so looking for things to entertain myself for a few hours, I've read through the thread and have a few queries:

- any suggestions on the best lounges I could use as a BA silver? I'm getting the impression there isn't much here?

- any good food places you'd recommend? I'm particularly partial to cheesecake (and cake generally lol)

- I saw on another website about a good aviation related shop in the Marriott airport hotel? but haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere, is it worth a look?

Looking forward to suggestions, it's a shame my first visit to Texas will be a 5hr airport layover!!

The IAH Marriott is currently undergoing major renovations. Said aviation related shop is on the level below what was the check-in lobby, above the tram. I believe it is only accessible by using the escalator.

Sadly, there is no lounge you can use with BA Silver. If you're a Priority Pass holder you can use the KLM Lounge or you can buy a day pass to a United Club for $50. Their lounges aren't really special though just FYI.

Thanks RoyalFlush.

Unfortunately not a priority pass holder :td:

I think the best place to eat in the airport is Pappadeux in the E terminal. CatCora's is also there which some of my friends love; I do not. If you are stuck with flying out of B there is a decent restaurant in the entrance to the lowest numbered B gates. It's Bar something or something B. I think it's the only non fast food place in B.

I hate to ask stupid questions, but it seems strange to me that you are flying BA to IAH and then on to LAX. Could you be flying to DFW or IAD?

Regarding the routing, it was the only BA destination that direction with First availability to UUA at the time of booking. Going via IAH also brought the price down considerably (ex-Scandinavia – IAH fare) for the business base fare which I couldn’t get if I went through DFW etc. The layover would be a pain with lounge access but had I been aware of the potential for none I might have made alternative plans!!

There is a later BA flight (which also had F availability) which I considered when booking but it only allows 50mins between flights which may have been a bit tight for my liking depending on LHR departure, immigration queues at IAH etc.

Thanks for the advice guys.
