"New Posts" vs "Today's Posts"

Can't see a clear reason for the appearance of one label over the other. It's possibly obvious to some, and in any case may not be of much significance, but I'd like an explanation, and feel it's reasonable to ask. The seemingly obvious one--all are "Today's" until all of current date have been viewed, at which point any appearing anytime thereafter become "NEW"---doesn't seem to match my experience. Or does it?
PM me if this is of too little significance to others or already beaten to death in past threads.
Thanks
djc

Where do you see today's post?

My experience with New Posts is that its usually new activity since the last sign-in date -- now that IB has had the boards for awhile and all the issues with search, etc I can't say if that's still the case.

"Today's Posts" shows if you're not logged in.

Actually that makes perfect sense as the system won't know what is recent for you, e.g. your last time logged in/on the site.

Thanks!

Now why didn't *I* think of that?;)
