The ads are annoying, but I wouldn't consider them ghetto - I'm seeing Starwood, Hilton, Amex, Virgin Atlantic.

Cheers.

I understand this but also it was part of the purchase deal. I'm not sure what the future plans are in this regard, but note that many of us cannot stand the ads and one way or the other, its an option for no ads or very limited FT time. At least that's my approach.

I do not believe anyone asked where the money was going.... :D

Members paid for a service they are not getting... unless someone is saying the "gratis courtesy" is no longer going to happen.

They've gone away again ^

Indeed. After reading Insider Flyer for a couple of months I found myself getting bored by it. The only reason I renewed my subscription was to get FT ad-free.

I feel I purchased the ad-free aspect and Inside Flyer, which I intend to ignore, was thrown in gratis.

The ads made me wonder how people can stand (and stay) FT w/ them. :o

That was my take as well. The whole process slowed down considerably due to the all ad placements. Didn't see any of the Google ads that are supposedly placed within the posts.

Just use the Firefox add-on, ....... Plus. That's how I get my ad-free expereince.

Did I mention it's free? ;)

We do seem to have ad creep though - apparently some forums are now sponsored  When on the directory pages, there are little ad icons in some of the forum headers....

If that's the way you want to spin it (which is definitely the wrong way), I suggest you rework this page:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/claim_subscription.php

... which makes it sound like FlyerTalk Premium is a paid-for benefit of Inside Flyer magazine subscription.

I noticed that too - and it does seem to be slowing down FT for me.

I've willingly paid for FT premium and happy to continue to do so to remain ad-free, but if ad-free doesn't mean free of ads then IB is just encouraging me to use (free) technical ways to block the ads.

Pat89339 Jun 26, 2008 10:13 am

I don't like this "sponsored by" ad creep either. I paid for ad free and it should remain ad free.

gleff Jun 30, 2008 4:33 am

This definitely needs to be fixed.

One way or another, regardless of the backend accounting, ad free was promised to members and isn't being delivered.

More importantly, ad free needs to be an option, whether through Inside Flyer or through IB directly. And once someone has paid for ad free, IB needs to not place ads on that member's screen.

This is just the sort of thing which degrades trust in a company and turns off loyal eyeballs (and leads one to think that a company must be savvy enough to realize this, and thus must be calculating that those eyeballs aren't worth much, and you can imagine how those eyeballs feel at the thought  ).

Apologies to all:
Glad to see that the temp ad problem was corrected.

I'm not sure what the ad creep (sponsored by...) is all about and it has obviously changed from its intent and purpose when started some time ago. As I no longer have 100% control of these things, I'm certainly happy to fully refund (not a pro-rated thing) 100% of your $12 if the current ad creep is any concern to you and leave you to any other solution that might work for you with my apologies. For me, I really didn't notice the "sponsored..." thing until someone pointed it out to me and it doesn't seem to interfere with my viewing so the basics of the ad-free still seem in place to me, but I wanted to offer any member not fully satisfied of their $12 annual ad-free solution a solution, since for more than a year i have had no control or responsibility of the nature of actual ads on FlyerTalk.

But if things are OK now, then thank you.
