how to see thread without opening it?

Can I see a few lines of a posted thread by putting the mouse over the topic, without having to open it? On a number of forums, I am able to do this so I can just scan a topic first before opening it? Thanks.

Not sure what you wish to achieve, however you may like to look threads up using "Flyer Talk Lite".

e.g. This thread: how to see thread without opening it?

Hi serfty

Thanks for your reply. What I meant was: Instead of opening each thread / topic to see what it is all about, is there a way to just put the mouse over the topic line and read its first few sentences? So that I don't waste time opening up a thread, if I am not interested in reading it. In a number of forums I visit, they are set up so that when I put the mouse over the subject thread, a box appears with the first few lines from the starter - this is useful as the subject can be ambiguous.

Here is an example of one of these forums, you can just put your mouse over each topic thread and see what it is about - http://www.propertyinvesting.com/forum/active

I lift my lap top slightly and peek underneath ;)

Hi Newryman

Seriously, I don't think you understand my question. What I would like to know is how to quickly read a thread (to see what it is about) without clicking on it to open it. If I am interested in reading it further then I will open it, otherwise I move on to the next thread. In other forums (I don't know how they do it), but you just move your mouse over a thread and a new small window opens up showing you the first few lines of the thread.

Sorry if I appear to be dumb, but I ask a genuine question. In fact the link I gave did not have this feature, until they revamped their website recently. I have found the feature to be very useful.

This feature is not available on FT.

You may want to post in the Suggestions forum.

Hi Simon

Because I am a QFF member and I view this forum. If I have posted it incorrectly then I don't mind that it is moved to a more appropriate place. Also, since the forums I mention which have the preview feature for the threads are Australian forums. Sorry, if I have caused any confusion.

Yes - best in the Technical Issues forum. You can follow the thread there.

Thanks, willyroo, for moving the post to the correct section of the forum. I have also posted as a suggestion, as recommended by qasr. Hope this useful feature can be done by the technical people.
