Problem with Orange Advertisement in BA Forum thread

Hi

I have a problem with an advertisement in the BA Forum - it is for a "free Orange Simcard".

The advertisement keeps moving my browser back up the page intermittently when I am trying to read the post. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=704969

It also brings that browser window to the front of my desktop if I am using another window which makes it infuriatingly difficult to type this message while that window is open, and difficult to browse the forum while at work.

I have no problem with the advertising in the forum, however when it interferes with my actual reading of threads and posts, I feel it is one step too far!

It has to be the most annoying ad on the internet ever. Like you say, adverts are one thing but when it actually interferes to that extent then enough is enough.

I had posted this in the suggestions forum and can assure you that the Orange ad is not just restricted to the BA forum.

Orange :td::td::td:

Now please somebody at FT do something about it!

Ads? What ads? Go with Flyertalk Premium.... support Flyertalk for $12 per year... and you never see ads again.... a small price to pay to support Flyertalk!

Bloody Frustrating!

I second this frustration!
The same advertisement is in the BMI British Midland forum too.
You simply can't read more than four words before the pages jumps back (unless you permanently hold on to the scroll bar)

Extremely annoying and I won't be clicking on it!

AND NOW IT'S IN THIS THREAD TOO!

As said in suggestions forum, GET RID OF THE ORANGE AD!!! I couldnt even type this quick reply without the cursor disappearing out of the box every few words as the ad restarts.

I have just upgraded to get rid of the infernal thing and also to support FT which I am slowly becoming addicted to.

Like other posters on here, I have no problems with ads for non subscribers but when the ad starts messing with browsers, that is another matter and seems an underhand method to get people to upgrade. Please fix it for those who don't / can't upgrade for whatever reason.

I must be missing something. I have never subscribed to FT Premium and I have never had a problem with any advertisements. Yes, there is a Marriott ad to the right and Amex at the top but they are non-obtrusive and never interfer with my viewing pleasure.

Maybe my pop-up blocker or Google tool bar kill all these problems I read about on this forum?

I have not seen one for around 45 minutes now. I think that FT may have pulled them!

It's really annoying me. Hi-jack ads like this shouldn't be allowed.

HIDDY Jun 18, 2007 9:58 am

Still causing me problems.:td:

I suspect the UK users are being targeted for it (I too can see it in this thread) and it's appalling... trying to type responses in Quick Reply means trying to time them between leaps back up the page :(

Where on the page is this ad being seen? Thanks for the reports.

If anyone can get a screenshot of it, that would be great also. Thanks,

Assuming that your email address is your handle followed by .com - you have email!

No, but you should be able to attache the screenshot to a post in this thread or alternatively you can send it to [email protected], Thanks,

It's a Doubleclick advert,

I couldn't do this from my work computer, but now I'm home, I have a temporary fix:

If you use Internet Explorer,
GO TO
Tools
- Manage Add-ons...
In the window that opens, scroll down and look for the following entry:

"Shockwave Flash Object - Adobe Systems Incorporated (Type ActiveX Control)"

Select it and then select Disable.
Click OK and then exit. You'll need to restart Internet Explorer for the effect to occur.

The advert will still load but it will just be an image - it won't play and it won't grab your screen position.

Thanks for the assistance in tracking this down everyone. The ad should be gone now, let me know if you see it again though.

jbfield Jun 18, 2007 12:44 pm

Thank you!
