Ok, it's probably me - but Vista?
So I logged into chat tonight. No one on yet. No worries; it's about the time they come on. Normally (under old system), chat would be live at the bottom & I could toggle (my non-techie term) btwn chat & checking out FT.
Now w/ my new Vista system I log onto chat, but the second I go to a regular FT forum, chat disappears & I if I want to go back to it, I have to log on again & then lose FT. Having no technical skills I'm willing to say it's me, but I just got a new Vista laptop, so there is a slim thought it might have something to do w/ that. Any advice? Cheers. |
Bumping this up because I'd like to hear from the tech guys. There are times when I'm logged into chat that I will also visit FT forums. If I can't do that now I'd like to know so that I'm aware of it. If it's a glitch, then how do I fix it (and don't say go to XP ;) my laptop came w/ Vista). Any input and/or help appreciated.
Cheers. |
It looks like Internet Explorer on Vista relates the chat window that pops up as being a part of the page that launched it. So when the page changes or is closed the chat popup is as well. I assume this is a new security feature added in the Vista version of Internet Explorer(ie).
A simple work-around would be to to open the chat login page on a new tab(a new feature in ie7) by holding down the control key and pressing the link to the chat login page; this will keep the chat open and the login page open on a tab in your current browser. You can then switch internet explorer back to the first tab and browse the forums as desired and the chat will remain open :D. |
Well when my techie FT friend gets to town this weekend I'll have him read this & show me how to do it cuz if there's a way to goof it up, I will. Thanks for the info. Wonder if you'll get more questions like this as more folk upgrade or buy Vista machines. Cheers.
