Errorsafe hijacking FT
 

Lately I have had a lot of problems with errorsafe ads (Symantec report) hijacking FT. Is there anything that the administrators can do to make those highly unethical and extremely annoying ads dissapear? Reading FT with ads is fine, but when the ad hijacks the browser and automatically takes me away from the FT site then it is going too far.
The symptom is that as I try to read a page at FT it suddenly changes to the errorsafe page where I am asked to install their program to "protect my computer" or something to that effect. Once there the only way to get back to where I was on FT seems to be to close the browser and hope that I dont get the errorsafe ad when I return.

might using a browser other than IE help with that problem?

Nope, I have had the same problem both using IE under win XP, and using Firefox under Gentoo Linux.
I could probably install some sort of adblocker or proxy or something like that, but it really seems to me like a serious website like FT should avoid associating with dubious companies like errorsafe.

How does it affect Linux?

In exactly the same way as in Windows. The browser is hijacked and I am automatically taken to the errorsafe webpage. Trying to go back to FT (jumping back in the browsing history to the FT page I was attempting to view) just sends me right back to errorsafe again. Obviusly I'm quite certain that errorsafe does not have a Linux port, so there is no risk that their program would be installed on my Linux machines. The typical security settings in IE should also keep me safe from the program being installed without me doing that intentionally, but that doesn't change the fact that it becomes difficult to read FT.

I haven't seen any of these ads is anyone else seeing them on the site? I won't rule out that they may be coming from FT, but if nobody else is getting the same ads might you have adware on your computer causing this?

I'm certain it is not caused by anything on my computer as I have seen it on four separate computers (two win XP with IE, two Gentoo Linux with Firefox). I guess that anyone subscribing to FT Premium would not see this, right?

I have been on a lot recently, and have not seen anything like this. I mostly use Safari on Mac, but also FF on Mac and PC.

FlyerTalk Premium eliminates all ads associated with the forums, so if the issue is caused by a FT ad it would eliminate this. If it is not caused by the FT ads it wouldn't change things in that case of course.

While it may 'appear' that only FT is being hijacked, the OP may well find that just leaving a browser window open <about:blank> will eventually spawn an episode -- the Symantec tech & removal links are pretty clear.
It also wouldn't surprise me to imagine that this scumware is network-aware, & happily pokes itself at your LAN.

Looks like there's a few REAL (& free) removal suggestions via Google.

Unfortunately I have to report that I have the same problem as deimos and on at least two different PC's. Errorsafe hijacks the window while browsing, even though not clicking any ads. AFAIK seems to be happening only when on FT.

For me this started only this week. The last time it happened I simply selected "Search" from the top bar and *pooh* Errorsafe warnings and pages appeared.

Again, I am quite certain that my computers are not infected by errorsafe, and thus there is nothing to remove. The Win computers I'm using are scanned by Spybot S&D and have appropriate security settings etc. The Linux computers should be protected by default as I believe errorsafe is only for Windows. It would also be quite odd if 4 separate computers (in separate locations) that I use had become infected by something and that the problem would only manifest while browsing FT without this being caused by FT.
I am pretty sure that the errorsafe browser hijackings that I see are caused by one of the ads that (randomly?) appear on FT.

Exactly the same here. Only Flyertalk, on two different computers and often associated with search function. No viruses detected and online virus protection (F-secure). It started a couple of days ago but luckily no errorsafe warnings today.

Error safe is a common spybot and may not be detected by all spyware removal software (especially the free ones :)) this is an excellent link for removal:
