Parent and Child Forums
So we have a new hotel deal forum under the MR Forum which is great, ^ but I'm noticing that the MR Forum is showing the same entry as the Hotel Forum for last updated thread (on the my flyertalk page) -- is there a way to get the MR Forum to show its own most recent updated thread and ignore the child forum or is that not possible with the parent/child set-up?
Thanks. Edited to add: this of course is only an issue when the hotel forum has the most recently updated thread of the two. |
yeah, I don't like this either.

Sadly this is not an option in VBulletin :(

Bummer. Wonder at the LOE involved to make both be on an equal level below a Mileage/Hotel Run Forum level like the airlines and hotels are? Probably not worth it ... so oh, well.

Hmm, so this wouldn't happen if it was a forum to itself (and not a subforum)...

I seconded a motion for the Hotel Deals/Mattress Run new split -off to be a SEPERATE Forum, and TalkBoard voted against that idea. I voted for it of course. I voted against the idea of it being a sub-forum for this and other reasons. That sub-forum motion carried, and we have the new entity as you see it now: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showt...91#post5191691 Perhaps GoingAway you might ask those that voted against the idea of a sperate Forum if they were aware of the practical difficulties facing members that you now raise? They may be able to explain to you how this new arrangement benefits and assits you and other members. |
ozstamps - It is what it is and I'll live with it. I stay away from politics on ft or elsewhere, you'll have to find someone else to play this game.
However since you've chosen to play the game, I would like to point out that you're a member of a group representing FT'ers and while you might not agree with all decisions that are made (and no, I haven't and won't read the thread about this decision or likely any other), the above post is nothing but taking trash from talkboard discussions and distributing them on the board. I'd rather not see that happen during yours or anyone else's tenure. For those interested in specifics of talkboard discussions, I believe there are plenty of threads and posts that are made available in the talkboard forum - ppl are free to visit and read the history there, if they are interested. |

No, ozstamps - my question was a technical one which ScottC answered very efficiently in an earlier post - hence my posting this in the technical issues not talkboard forum. I never asked for the talkboard history which is what you provided.

And is case anyone is slightly confused about the thread heading, the terminology for this most generally used on FT is Forum and sub-forum, in case "parent and child" is not clear to all reading this.

Reason for my posting, however, is another item: The new Hotel Deals subforum is a wonderful idea. Since it is so new, seems to have a gremlin lurking: The listing shows up on the "Miles and Points" page but not on the "Forums" page. Shouldn't it be listed on the "Forums" page as well? Again, "Hotel Deals" is a great idea for a subforum. Or forum. Whatever. :) |
