Why was FT down?

I was accessing FT normally earlier today and then it basically shut down and I could not load the page for hours. What happened?

airbus320 Oct 31, 2005 8:42 am

It is working 100% yet

There are still issues -- running repair utilities

John, will your continuing work restore our ability to use "new posts"? Right now, it only lists threads from 11pm last night and older.

Actually, just to be clear, I believe that you're getting this. SanDiego1K, only because you're a Moderator.

Others do not retreive these older posts at all. I, for example, get nothing! ;)

I see from this post that others are having the same problems I am having. I will be patient. ;)

Hi doc,

Don't you have the ability normally to search for new posts? I didn't think that was a moderator only capability.

I logged off FT at 10:11pm last night. I was able to get onto FT about 8am (California time) this morning. I then ran "new posts". I get the posts from 10:11pm to 11:13pm, during which time there were 95 new posts. I continue to get only that window of time and those posts if I check for new posts.

pranu Oct 31, 2005 11:43 am

Like doc I don't see any new posts when I click on New posts.

I only get a

"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

Usually yes, but not today unfortunately! :(

I believe the tech guys are working on it as we "speak!" :)

Soon we'll be as good as new, I expect.

As a moderator, I'm getting the same message. Good to know that the HOM folks are on it. ^

We had a table corrupt and it put out of synch the search database and the posting database. Looks like it will take 2 hours of downtime to re-synch and correct - we're just thinking of the best time to put FT down for two hours. Very sorry. Thank you.

Argh.. 2 hours of downtime, and I'm not on the road at all this week. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise: would you consider scheduling the downtime for hours that I'm supposed to be working? :p

Spiff Oct 31, 2005 5:21 pm

I suggest 3am - 5am EDT. :D

I'm very likely to be asleep then.

No No. Not that. But if you must, keep it painless. :D

Things always seem to be pretty quiet after 10:00 PST. Then again, it is later in COS and perhaps we should be considerate of anyone at HOM dealing with jetlag. Would the "down time" give the HOM more time to tally TB votes?

Well, with two hours right smack dab in the work day for most of the Continental US or very likely morning for Hawaii, that would give many of us an opportunity to go outside, see the sun and enjoy the weather (or, actually get some work done). ;)

Which is a very helpful error message considering that's probably why we use the "new posts" feature in the first place. ;)

`New Posts' or `Todays Posts' Not Working

Hi!

For some reason whenever I click on Quick Links > New Posts or Quick Links > Todays Posts I get the message:

"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

I beleive there was some issue last year about this but it has worked fine for me up until about 18 hours ago.

I am logged in OK, and there are new posts but they are showing when I do the New Posts query.

I use it because it's quicker than going to each Forum etc.

Any idea why it's not working on my end? (Or is it just not working today!)

Thanks
Ernie

I noticed yesterday, searches for postings by an individual for the last day, were getting the "Sorry - no match" response. In the attempts I made, the individuals clearly had made postings. So apparently the database is not properly referencing recent threads.
