Access to OMNI forum

sorry, if I should have been able to work this out on my own, but..

I understand there is a protocol for accessing the OMNI forum. I have searched the FAQ's help options and run various keyword searches and so far I haven't found the guidelines...

I would be interested in at least viewing status on OMNI. Any guidance would be much appreciated.

And thank you for making FT such a wonderful resource.

Hi steven b. Here's the latest info on obtaining OMNI access ( It's a "sticky" at the top of OMNI ):

Becoming OMNI Enabled
What we value most on FlyerTalk is dialog about the topic of miles and points. It's in our history and in our souls. OMNI grows out of the familiarity of Community, which is actually a good thing. However lately we've found that new members are becoming members of FlyerTalk to take part in the dialog that is OMNI. I have strong feelings this is not the best direction for FlyerTalk. As a result, we've instituted a feature of FlyerTalk that will limit access to both OMNI to those members we feel have contributed enough to FlyerTalk to enjoy the benefits of posting on this forum. The idea that by posting in the miles, points and travel forums, members will better familiarize themselves with the other members they may exchange opinions with later and have developed more sensitivity to them and as well, a sense of respect for the Community we call FlyerTalk. I feel that becoming part of the Community of FlyerTalk will go a long way toward enjoying the other benefits of this wonderful group of people.

The entrance level to enjoy posting in OMNI will be contributing 180 posts to the topic of miles, points or travel, as well as being a member for at least 180 days. It's what we started with and what we still require today. I am sorry if there will be any inconvenience, but certainly we have not taken away your ability to read and enjoy the content in this forum, only the ability to post.

Cheers,
Randy

thanks for the quick reply.

As I read the sticky, it seems there are requirements for POSTING on access (which i don't meet) but in the meantime, I should be able to access (browse?). But as of now I still can't...

thanks for any more suggestions..

Steven

Same for me. Do we get some kind of notification when we get access?

You used to be able to read them even without 180/180. Now you can't read them either. I think they were concerned that so many people joined FlyerTalk after the NY Times article that it would be deflected into a political forum and not a travel forum.
You aren't missing that much. I was wondering what I was missing before I had access. One interesting aspect of OMNI is that you get insight into other poster's personalities that you otherwise wouldn't see.

I don't believe you will. It will just appear as another forum after you've met the requirements to view OMNI. I believe the reason this was changed is that there was the desire to see more 'giving' to the community (in the form of information and just generally being helpful to others on FT) and to eliminate people who spend most of their time here in OMNI.

Steven...the sticky does seem to indicate that OMNI should be available on a read-only basis but, according to your post and others in this thread, that appears not to be the case.
You've made some good posts in the airline and hotel forums thus far. I'd suggest you keep contributing to the travel forums as you've done and you may even pick up a few new FT friends along the way. At your current posting rate, OMNI should show up before years-end.
But I'll bet that if you get involved in some of the mileage and points discussions that OMNI will appear and you won't even notice it's there for awhile. OMNI was designed as a diversion from mileage and points issues and not as a primary destination.
Happy posting......:).
