Hallelujah! Search and new posts are back!

Thanks to Flyertalk for getting things running again!

My sentiments exactly. Thanks FT, you're the BEST!

This is a test. Don't be surprised if things change again.

Keeping my fingers crossed. I love the 'New Posts' feature, it's a great way to scan the entire board quickly. ^

Hey, search is back. Cool. Way to go FT guys/gals. ^

One thing: "My FlyerTalk" seems to have been renamed "User CP" on the interior (non front page) links which seems to stand for "User Control Panel." Not sure if that was intentional or not.

A side effect of updating the board software today -- but one I'm going to let ride until Monday.

New Posts - is it possible that this can be altered to only bring up new posts in forums to which I have subscribed?

This is potentially a very useful tool which would make scanning my subscribed boards a lot quicker - but only if I can tailor it to the specific boards I want.

I haven't been seeing any return of the Search feature and still don't. I take it that it was removed again?

drtravix Mar 1, 2005 11:45 am

I can see it right now in the bar at the top of the page...

Thanks. But I don't seem to have that on my FlyerTalk. Here's a screenshot taken just now:

http://members.aol.com/premexfiles/screenshot.jpg

I cleared all cookies, logged off and then back on, etc and still no search feature for me. :(

Kiwi Flyer Mar 1, 2005 12:15 pm

Have you tried logging out and then using

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mycookies.php

to delete all ft cookies?

rthib Mar 1, 2005 12:18 pm

Still no search

I see search in the main bar, but when I click on it I get:
vBulletin MEssage:
you do not have permission to access this page

Yep. I just tried that again and still nothing. Thanks anyway.

I've emailed Webflyer and hopefully they'll be able to figure it out or turn it on for me.

John at Webflyer Mar 1, 2005 1:45 pm

Can you see the search now?

bostonbali Mar 1, 2005 1:57 pm

Is it only my machine, or is FT super-slow again (more often than not)? :(

pinniped Mar 1, 2005 3:20 pm

I can see the Search button and enter a search parm, but I don't have permission to actually run a search.

PremEx Mar 1, 2005 4:26 pm

John...

Here's what I just did:

Attempted to Log Off FlyerTalk and got:

vBulletin Message
An error occurred while attempting to log you out. Click here to log out.
I clicked there to attempt a second log off and that attempt was successful and it said all cookies cleared.

I went to the link:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mycookies.php

...and it found five cookies still remaining. I deleted all of them.

Then I returned to the main FlyerTalk page and logged-in again, and still no Search feature showing on any of my pages.

John...Edited to add that I just noticed Tim's announcement that Search has been turned off again, so most of the above is immaterial, I guess. Since I was away most of the afternoon I never had a chance to see if whatever you did fixed it for me, even if just temporarily before it was turned off systemwide again.

ozstamps Mar 2, 2005 5:13 am

Yes, search is turned off again for a few months this time, it seems to be saying? :(

Search Downtime

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The search is down again for the time being. We will have the search down until there is a new PHP release that fixes the problems with the current version or a better solution is found. Thank you for understanding this.

fduvall Mar 2, 2005 11:11 am

Man...a few months for the php release??!?! I live for the New Posts button. And I can't find the Google search anymore.

It should not be that long.

Could you re-post the Google work-around link again?

Mul Mar 3, 2005 12:07 am

Google search

This one works for me:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...gle+workaround

In the google search text box, enter "site:www.flyertalk.com keywords"

replace the keywords w/ your keywords..

ozstamps Mar 3, 2005 4:43 am

The Google thing is all but useless for 99% of searches. Even this far more useful one:

http://www.google.com/search?sitesea...%3CKeywords%3E

A. It takes Google many days to spider FT anyway

B. It does not allow you to search in a specific Forum or by member using a word, nor a time period you want.

Type the word "Madrid" or "Upgrade" or "train" or "ozstamps" or "Rudi" into google and you'll get 10,000 matches etc.
