font just changed..

hmmm.. did I do something? the font is smaller and different on FT now and the same for all other web pages so I'm not sure it's just my browser.

FightingIlliniUAL Jan 5, 2005 10:31 am

Same for me, font smaller and annoying ads on the right side dissappeared.

jfe Jan 5, 2005 10:31 am

Same thing happened to me, I better check those announcements just in case ;)

Kiwi Flyer Jan 5, 2005 10:32 am

Just changed for me too. But only for things that are bolded (ie forum names, headers) or links. Everything elese appears normal.

PS Finding it hard to read as too small. Can it be changed back please?

My font changed as well. Think it has something to do with the new banner on the top of each page. Don't know if I particuarly like it, but it will be useful to those who don't navigate FT with bookmarks.

aloha

Yup ... that's the culprit. We done been "enhanced". ;)

Overkill IMHO .... OR get rid of top banner and just leave side one - which btw is still there on my screen anyway.

Each Forum looks like cr*p now when you open it, is my view as it is so bunched up. :td: :td: :td: :td: :td:

magiciansampras Jan 5, 2005 10:39 am

Yeah I don't like it.

pbiflyer Jan 5, 2005 10:43 am

And as my optomitrist said when I went to him in a panic because overnight I couldn't read small print anymore, "You're old." Obviously, he flunked bedside manner, hence the reason for his dropping out of med school.
Please, for those of us that are afflicted with "old", please make the font bigger!

wherenext Jan 5, 2005 10:45 am

Yes this is harder to read with these older eyes

steve100 Jan 5, 2005 10:46 am

Yes, please put the font back to the way it wasy.... This is awful.

FightingIlliniUAL Jan 5, 2005 10:47 am

I like it because the advertisments on the right hand side are no longer available.
Those smileys drove me nuts!

lolosmama Jan 5, 2005 10:49 am

I like the new fonts better.

John at Webflyer Jan 5, 2005 10:50 am

Tim's looking at it.

bobes Jan 5, 2005 10:52 am

weird... fonts changed for me also... thought it was my browser... in some forums, travel tech I think...
NM it's just my imagination

FlyerTalk Jan 5, 2005 10:59 am

Fonts are now back to their previous size. We are updating the forum so that the global site navigation is part of it now. Thanks,

Tim

FightingIlliniUAL Jan 5, 2005 11:01 am

Kudos to the staff for being prompt!

magiciansampras Jan 5, 2005 11:03 am

Giddy up! Thanks for the quick work!

Kiwi Flyer Jan 5, 2005 11:07 am

Thanks for the prompt fix ^^ - I can read again!!

Just an observation, but I don't see that this new navigation tool does anything differently than the previous non-descript blue banner did... aside from take up a bit better than one-third of the screen, that is.

jfe Jan 5, 2005 11:38 am

Thanks, looks much nicer ;)

wherenext Jan 5, 2005 12:01 pm

Very impressive response to concerns. Thanks

On mine, the top banner is taking up fully half of the web page area. It would be great to get this reduced.

Edited to add: on a different computer, the banner area is taking up 60-70% of the website portion of screen, such that I can't even see the top thread without scrolling. And just to be clear, I am not referring to the blue backgrounded area with the logo "The world's most popular . . ." but to the area immediately below that which includes the "Jump to Forums" link.

Yes, my eyes are good so I set my screen resolution small. I never stopped to think how it must look on others' screens.

FWIW, and I doubt it's much, I see little benefit to the change and accordingly give it a healthy :td: :td:

Could you please place the FT general navigation bar at the bottom because combined with the top banner, it takes almost 50% of the screen height.

Or, perhaps, make it an option -- I know that vBulletin supports multiple skins, so that each user can select a skin of his/her choosing in user options...

Us lucky folks in OZ still get those irritiating smileys. Top AND at RH side of the screen. The side ones never went away here although I note some of you above report they did for you.

Yes looks cluttered - and WHY unobtrsuutve litlte rectangular navigation tabs would not suffice sure beats me.

What's with the 15 year old Olive Oil and Popeye line drawings anyway? Looks ridiculous and ameteurish, apart from taking up a ton of un-necessary depth in the viewing window.

jimquan Aug 22, 2006 8:38 am

Sorry to resurrect this thread but can anyone explain why the too small for my aging eyes FT fonts are fixed?

I understand the part about ads but I subscribe to FT premium and don't see the ads anyway. My fix is Avant Browser which has a built in page magnifier. When I view other sites it and forget to go back to 100% magnification it messed up the other sites.

Jim
