ING Barings ad

Every time the ING Barings ad appears (in the top banner ad space), the rest of page doesn't load/display correctly. I am experiencing this on both my home Mac running Safari and my office PC with Internet Explorer.

I suppose something is corrupted with that ad. It's very annoying.

I'm getting the ING ad right now on Safari with no page load problems. I also went over to our PC and tried it in IE (using WinXP) with no problems.

Are you using spyware/anti-virus programs?

Huh. Every time it loads in the top banner, that's ALL I see. No software that would interfere with the web browser loaded. I'll keep my eye on it, that ad doesn't come up that often so it's not too irritating.

NickW I feel your pain.

I have similar problem with the True ads which seem to not affect others  Has been happening intermittently for quite a while now :(

I find the only way to get around it is open another session and try again - sometimes this works and sometimes it doesnt.

Very frustrating.

Incidentally it seems we dont get the same ads at the same time (ie I can be cussing the True ads and others tell me they see some other ad) - any reason why?

Every time a page loads on a user's computer, it makes a call to the ad server, and the server sends out whatever ad is next (either at random, or based on a queue). You get ad "A", and the person next to you could get "B", etc.

Thanks. So maybe I just need for someone else to get all the True ads and I'll be right :)

Kinda explains why it is intermittent too.

... dupe ...

NickW Sep 16, 2004 5:31 pm

No, I'm not imagining it. Literally every time the ING ad loads in the top ad box, the rest of the page doesn't display. When it (or rather the vertically formatted version) loads in the right-hand ad box there is no problem.

Huh, actually not literally, because no just while I was composing this post, it worked fine in another window. Argh. But the only times I get a non-rendered page, the ING ad is the only thing showing, other than the top-left FT logo.

not true to me

Well I am with you. Whenever a true ad shows up my browser halts. Have taken to opening everything in new windows and trying to hit the stop loading button after the page file opens but prior to the true ad opening.

If I miss a true ad coming in it is just like you - start a new session.

ING ads cause me no problems though

Kiwi Flyer Sep 16, 2004 6:56 pm

ah so its not just me!

Havent seen any True ads recently so going fine for me. :)

Dan,
I am curious, why are you guys not running G's AdSense or similar types of ads? On our sites, we saw a revenue increase when replacing image ads with AdSense and the AdSense ads are much, much, much less annoying then the ING and True stuff.

It's not up to me... our advertising department makes those decisions.

I think, though, that we have had Google's ads running through our parent ad company before; it just depends on our inventory.

Also, aren't the AdSense ads CPC, meaning you have to click on them for revenue? Our banner ads are CPM... no click necessary for revenue. Just the impressions.

yevlesh2 Sep 17, 2004 3:16 pm

Yep, AdSense is CPC, but the targetting is so good that people actually click! Anyway, I just noticed that Gleff's blog on WebFlyer is running AdSense, so clearly the advertising department is aware of them and the image CPMs are probably doing better on FT.

Are there two different ING ads? One which is with an orange life-saving ring, and one which has a pseudo-dot-matrix LED-alike display? If so, it seems to be the latter which is causing problems.
