Chat takes a really long time to load....

I've been having trouble getting into CHAT the past week. I enter the same way as always. Then, I wait, and I wait. Eventually I just log off.

Someone else told me they're having the same problem.

Can you help?

Dan

Sorry about the slow loading on that... We'll check it out and see if there's something up with the chat server.

SkiAdcock Aug 27, 2004 12:43 pm

I had the same experience as dhammer53.

Get This Fixed!

Get this fixed or drop chat...

It's taking forever to load, & now we're getting knocked off. Then when we try to get back on we can't

Fix chat - this is nuts, and it's 1-thing for long-timers who might try to come back, but for newcombers they'll say sayanora. Think about that.

Cheers. Sharon

Edited to fix type size (I hope).

Do you really want us to drop the chat?

Seems like a little patience while we try to get help from the developers to figure out what is happening would be helpful.

I'm with you John .... can you give us an idea of what's gone wrong with the chat system?

izzik Aug 31, 2004 8:08 am

John--

Thanks for looking into this. ^

OTOH, I don't usually have a problem with getting into chat.
It's not instantaneous.. but it still works for me.

John at Webflyer Aug 31, 2004 10:56 am

We are having a difficult time finding out what is happening with the chat. It seems to us that logging in takes an unacceptably long period of time, although we do get in eventually.

The developers have looked at the chat and tell us that the connect time is well within their parameters for access.

And that is where we are right now.

No, I don't want you to drop chat. I was frustrated that night - and I didn't really mean the typeface to be so big either when I posted that. Actually still a bit frustrated as it takes a while to load, but appreciate you guys checking into it. Cheers.

Update

Last night around 11:30 or so, Chat seemed to freeze on most everyone ... my PC required a reboot, not sure about anyone else. The problem is more than the slow load, if that's what the vendor is claiming ... good luck on the research.

Serial Traveler Sep 7, 2004 10:31 pm

1.25 minutes to log in to chat

It still is taking quite a while to log in to chat...at 1 minute 15 seconds tonight was better than last night, but still much slower than it has been in the past.

I've also noted than around 11:30 PM Pacific that things just start to crawl with chat messages taking a long time...not sure what's up, but this is a consistent problem at this time of the evening (regardless of how busy chat is).

Thanks for taking a look.

dhammer53 Sep 18, 2004 12:27 pm

Any update? I miss the olden days (of summer) when chat would load in just seconds.

Dan

John at Webflyer Sep 18, 2004 12:59 pm

I'll be making a trip to the colocation center in the next week to try a few things. Look for some down time, and then, hopefully, improvements.

BoyAreMyArmsTired Sep 18, 2004 7:04 pm

We're still also having the problem that if we get booted out of chat, we can't log back in for a period of time. Our identities remain there while we can't get back in. Thanks for your help.

Tsk. You California blondes want it all and want it NOW! :D

Randy might mail you back your subscription check Sharon. :)

Heck "a few minutes" is all they promise - right up front. Just popped in there - first time for ages and took 30 seconds to get in FWIW. Did a bit of chatting and did not get booted off, so maybe it has now stabilised?

FlyerTalk Chat

Logging into the chat... this may take a few minutes...

Once the Java applet has loaded on your computer, give it a minute to log you in. Once inside, you can customize your icon and chat profile by clicking on the Settings button...

dhammer53 Sep 19, 2004 7:10 am

Oz,

We know what it says. Fact is that chat always loads withn seconds (assuming high speed connection).

I'd say your sampling size is a little small in comparison to those of us posting here that an issue exists. Congrats on your using chat, its an interesting place to hang out every now and its great that the connection stuck for you. Unfortunately its not consistent and there are issues, hence this thread and the various posts and updates from those that use chat on a regular basis and those that maintain it.

Cheers.

dan at WebFlyer Sep 20, 2004 10:40 am

We're going to be doing some extensive work on the FlyerTalk servers this Wednesday and hope to get this chat issue smoothed out.

SkiAdcock Sep 21, 2004 1:50 am

Now Oz, you know I posted a 2nd post that said no I didn't want chat to drop & I appreciated Dan & John following up, so don't berate me for my first post which I toned down.

But to answer your ?, Yes of course us California blondes want everything immediately! Did you have any doubts? :p :D

And thank you BAMAT for your post - I was in AMS last week on hi-speed connection (which still took forever to load) & when I got bounced out & tried to get back in it told me I was still registered as in & wouldn't allow me back in. Drove me crazy to the point I gave up.

Look forward to post-Wednesday & hopefully things getting back to speed - even on my slow dial-up at home. Cheers.

Sharon

Hope the bugs resolve - kudos to the techies. ^

GoingAway Sep 22, 2004 8:38 pm

and the good news is ...

FT is slow but chat is doing great. Not sure if its on separate servers but this was the quickest Chat loaded for me in a very long time. Thanks for the update. ^

Yep -- separate server and we believe that the problems on chat are fixed.

Thanks,
John
