I encountered the same situation.

I too have had frequent connection errors with FT today. No problems with any other sites. Even when I can't load FT pages, I can still ping the site without any problems. The error come and go seemingly at random. At least, I have not been able to discern any pattern.

Strange thing for me is that I get this error only when using Safari (Mac OS X), which is my primary browser at home. No such problems with Camino on the Mac (what I am using now) or IE on Win XP (SP 1).

I've also been having intermittent connection problems today, from multiple locations.

My primary browser is also Apple's Safari, though Mozilla Firefox has the same trouble connecting.

Connection problems persist, both with Safari on OS X and IE on XP.

I eperience intermittent failures to connect with FT server, in the last 30 days for at least 20 times (and when the connection fails, it persists for about 10 minutes to not being able to connect).

Mac OSX 10.3.5, Safari browser 1.2.3

DNS Problem

There is a problem that needs to be fixed in the DNS and/or in the loadbalancer if that is what they are using.

Flyertalk.com resolves to two IP addresses: 64.78.185.92 and 64.78.185.85.

The server corresponding to the second IP address is dead or not accepting connections on that IP address.

If we use flyertalk.com in the URL, as long as it resolves to the first IP address, it works fine but somewhere in the middle it switches to the other IP address (I don't know if this is a DNS record problem or they are using a load balancer that is doing IP redirection to balance load to the non-functional IP address) and you start getting the connection error/refused error.

You can use the first IP address instead of www.flyertalk.com and the whole site works fine. But they should really fix this. Getting the other IP address working will solve the problem but it will repeat this problem whenever one of them goes down so they need a more robust solution.

If anyone knows how to get this to the attention of the admin via e-mail, please do so.

you did solve the problem for me venk, thank you.

Right now, the usual link doesn't work for me, http://64.78.185.92 does ^

A log rotation script failed to restart the webserver.

Rudi Aug 22, 2004 1:55 am

today (Sunday 3:30am EST) the 'normal' conection again fails to work.
(MacOS 10.3.5, Safari browser 1.2.3)

http://64.78.185.92/ still does work

same reason? (may be also the reason for the slow connections others observe here lately?).

airbus320 Aug 23, 2004 6:02 am

I still encountering period connection problems.

John at Webflyer Aug 23, 2004 8:40 am

Sorry one of the servers has problems with the log rotation script and is not returning to service the way that it is supposed to after log rotation.

Sorry for the inconvenience, and I have disabled the script until we have the problem resolved!

Thanks,
John
