Posting in OMNI

My ability to post in OMNI was lost somewhere in the last few hours. The rest of FT OK, OMNI no. The moderators were not aware of any changes in access. Have we gone back to OMNI by invite only? Trivial matter, to be sure. Just curious as to why I was not able to add my .02 about the Cleveland Indians good fortune to be in the Central Division. :)

Thanks.

I can answer that and am in the middle of posting an announcement to this effect. What we value most on FlyerTalk is dialog about the topic of miles and points. It's in our history and in our souls. OMNI grows out of the familiarity of Community, which is actually a good thing. However lately we've found that new members are becoming members of FlyerTalk to take part in the dialog that is OMNI. I have strong feelings that is not the best direction for FlyerTalk. As a result, we've instituted a feature of FlyerTalk that will limit access to both OMNI and The Coupon Connection to those members we feel have contributed enough to FlyerTalk to enjoy the benefits of posting on those forums. The idea that by posting in the miles and points forums, new members will better familiarize themselves with the other members they may exchange opinions with later and have developed a bot more sensitivity to them and as well, a sense of respect for the Community we call FlyerTalk. As for The Coupon Connection, again, we feel that it's better to give first into the Community of FlyerTalk by way of content, advice and information than it is to be lined up at the goodie wagon. Right or wrong, I feel that becoming part of the Community of FlyerTalk will go a long way toward enjoying the other benefits of this wonderful group of people.

The entrance level to enjoy posting in OMNI or The Coupon Connection will be contributing 100 posts to the topic of miles, points or travel. It's what we started with and what we still require today. I am sorry if there will be any inconvenience, but certainly we have not taken away your ability to read and enjoy the content in those two forums, only the ability to post.

Questions?
Cheers,
Randy

Why can't bck get in with 179 posts? Do OMNI posts not count towards the total?

I think this is an excellent move but would like to offer a suggestion. I think it would be better if Newstand and Security posts were not considered as being part of "miles, points or travel."

The reason is simple: As of late, these forums have started to become "Omnized". If posts in them are counted, the people who are currently not contributing will simply go to them, make their 100 posts there (disrupting these forums even further), and then move back to Omni.

We hadn't set it to 100 yet (it was at a higher number at first)... should be good now.

The same can be said about certain posters here in "Only Randy" as well ;)

Scotty, this time Kirk is going to have to beam YOU over. We're not in "Only Randy" -- we're in "Technical Issues". :D

Thanks for the responses.

I must confess that even though I read extensively in the miles and travel forums, most of my postings have been in OMNI. Most likely, this results from my traveling enough that I find FlyerTalk very useful, but feel that my own knowledge/experience pales when compared to some of the more prominent members.

While I do enjoy reading OMNI, I often find myself repeating the mantra of "miles and points, "miles and points," "miles and points" in order to keep from posting a response I might regret later. :)

Thanks for the explanation....

....now I understand why I was just blocked from posting in the Coupon Connection. I guess at the rate of .83 posts per day I'll get to 100 posts by the 4th of July. :)
