Private Messages: Could we have a "reply" button?

Currently when we access our private messages, there are two buttons: FORWARD and QUOTE. Could the QUOTE button be changed to say REPLY? The first time I accessed a Private Message, I couldn't figure out how to respond. It was a day before I tried QUOTE - and voila, there was a reply screen.

I second this as I also had the same initial confusion.

That threw us at first too. That might change as part of the graphic redesign, but would it throw you if the default behavior of a reply button was to quote the original message?

I for one do not have a problem with the original quote being included. Why not just rename it "Reply with Quote" so that there is no misunderstanding?

I too was confused with the lack of a "reply" button initially.

No, that would work fine. I can always delete the quoted original message if I did not wish to include it in my reply.

FewMiles..

The reply with quote would be great ^

Makes communication much easier

Any update?

Hi John,
Any update on changing this yet?

The quote button does this. It defaults to reply to sender and quotes their message.

If you dont want to quote the message then just delete it.

SanDiego1K Apr 24, 2004 2:19 pm

It is not intuititively obvious that QUOTE means REPLY. Thus we have requested our helpful hardworking FT IT folks to rename the tab. I would still like this change, as I think it is very confusing the first time that private messaging is used to figure out how to respond.

Kiwi Flyer Apr 24, 2004 2:25 pm

Agree it would be better labelled as "REPLY".

dan at WebFlyer Apr 26, 2004 1:01 pm

It's on our list of things to do (make a "Reply w/ Quote" button)... hang tight.

I agree with SanDiego1K on this point....it took me a few days to figure out how to reply and having the tag changed would be helpful.

But, I do love the new PM feature!!!! ^ ^ ^ ^

Thank you for our "Reply" button

Woohoo! It's done!!! It is now very clear how to respond to a private message. Thank you so much.

Yeah, it did... I couldn't find the button for quoting a public post in a reply. All I saw was "Reply" and "Post Reply".

How about "Reply with Quote"?

Canarsie May 11, 2004 8:43 am

Perhaps I Should Have Written “In RESPONSE To The Reply?...”

I quote the quote above in my post because you posted that dan at WebFlyer is supposed to reply to the reply on how to reply to the Reply issue and re-apply the reply about replies to Reply with Quote.

So, if dan at WebFlyer is supposed to post a reply to the post pertaining to the Reply button, to quote the quote that had already been quoted from another post in at least one reply found in yet another post, would a reply about re-applying the Reply With Quote with a quote in a post that is posted in a timely manner be a proper reply?

...wait a minute...?!?...

Efrem May 11, 2004 11:11 am

So if you reply after a post, it's a post-post reply, and if there's a button to post a post-post reply, it should read "Post post-post reply."

If there were a pole onto which post-post replies could be tacked, it would be a post-post reply post. If you were then to send this post to someone in the mail, it would be post-post reply post post, and would require post-post reply post post postage.

If one were to write something about that postage on FT, it would be a post-post reply post post postage post. And if one were to reply to that...

Enough already!

All Mixed Up!

You would spot the fact that stop is post with the letters mixed around in the wrong order.

Each FlyerTalk member opts to reply in their own way. However, I had better stop now before I get pots and pans thrown at me...

Great news! ^^

Where's the DELETE CHECKED MESSAGES button?

Now that the reply button has been resolved is it possible to install a button that deletes all the messages that are checked? Since we only get 70 messages, deltion of messages are critical and now done on a one-by-one process. @:-)

One already exists, gar777!

Just go to your list of private messages, activate the check box next to each message, and then go to the pop-up menu at the bottom (currently set to Move to Folder...) and choose Delete.

gar777 May 11, 2004 8:26 pm

Ah- never made any other folders and didn't see what's in drop down. Thanx...Canarsie! :)
