FT doesn't remember me (and won't keep me logged in)
I don't know if my two problems are related.
First, even though I have selected the "remember me" box, FT doesn't ever remember who I am. This is only mildly annoying, but I would like to know if there is something I can do to fix it. Second, and more frustrating, is that I cannot seem to stay logged in for any length of time. This is the most troublesome when I am trying to post to a forum. When I click "submit", I find I have been logged out. I am then sent to a page that reads as follows: QUOTE vBulletin Message You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: You are not logged in. Fill in the form at the bottom of this page and try again. You may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. Log inUser Name: Password: Forgotten Your Password? Remember Me? The administrator may have required you to register before you can view this page. END QUOTE To add to my frustration, my post disappears. Since it's hard enough for me to word any post the first time, it is nearly impossible for me to repeat a post. Of course, if you are reading this, it means my third attempt at starting this thread has been successful. I just need to know if this is a glitch with FT (if so I will patiently await the fix), if it's a problem with my dial-up modem on these pathetically trashy rural phone lines I use (if so I am up the proverbial creek), or if I have been somehow barred from posting (if so, I'm not paranoid, someone really is out to get me). |
Thanks for the question. I think the first problem might be to not "log out." Whenever you log out, the current system clears your cookies so that it does not remember you. The reason we added that was many users access FlyerTalk while traveling and use others computers. We simply didn't want to expose our members to others using their password to post something in their name. If you alway use FT from a single computer and it's yours, simply quit rather than logging out and the system will remember you. As for the other problem, it was likely related to our server performance problems and we've hopefully have that fixed. Try this advice and see if things aren't better for you.
Thanks for your support of FlyerTalk. Cheers, Randy |
I tried posting a thank you for your quick response ...
....but I found I had been logged out before I could finish composing the message.
I have figured out a make-shift way to post (but I sure hope I don't have to do this forever). First, I compose the text elsewhere, then return to the forum and click reply. If I quickly copy and paste, and then submit, I (usually) stay logged in long enough to complete the transaction. Sorry the OP wasn't as clear as it should have been. The most serious problem is that I can't seem to stay logged in to FT for any length of time, but I have NOT been intentionally logging out from my PC. Rather, I am being logged out against my will by unseen forces that are keeping me from enjoying the complete FT experience. |
Need a little more info please -- what operating system, web browser?
We haven't run into this, but let me see if we can duplicate this.

I just lowered the security setting from medium to medium low. I did not have this problem with the old FT nor have I run into it with any other website. Thanks so much for looking into this. I really enjoy FT and now that I am learning the features of the new site, I am learning to love it (except this glitch, of course). |
my last message posted right away
FWIW - I had to log in this morning (even though I never logged out last night) but then I was able to submit my last post on the first attempt. However, I had to log in again before sending this post. Good luck.

I hate to be a pest but.....
FT still won't remember me when I open it. Also, I still am not able to stay logged in for any length of time. Have you had any luck identifying my problem? I use Windows ME, IE 6, and a dial-up modem. I have fiddled with my security settings, but since I don't really know what I'm doing, I have no idea if that makes a difference to this problem.
I know you have had lots to handle recently. I don't mean to be impatient about my problem since it apparently isn't happening to anyone else, I don't expect it to be your top prioroty. I love FT and will access it however I can. If I have to log in every time I want to post or access MyFlyerTalk, then that's what I'll do. |

We can't duplicate this error on our end, so we can't give you much advice. Look for any settings that allow cookies to be set from flyertalk.com and make sure that's enabled. |
I have my fingers crossed that it is fixed!
I hate to get excited too soon, but I may have found the secret combination. Earlier today I tried to post and found I was logged out and I couldn't log back in. I would get the "thank you.....proceed" page but then it sent me back to the log in page.
I was so frustrated!! Then I started experimenting. I deleted all cookies and internet files. Then I changed my settings so that I am notified of all first and third party cookies. I rebooted my computer and VOILA!!!!! after accepting cookies from smarterliving.com and flyertalk.com, I logged right in and have stayed that way for 30 minutes. If this posts on first attempt I will be ecstatic. Thanks for trying to help me! |
I am ecstatic!
My last message posted on first attempt - even after I spent extra time fiddling with the syntax. Hurray for me!! I am now free to experience FT to the fullest. :D :D :D
