Threads posted "on Yesterday"
Was just looking at CommunityBuzz and saw that the BRT has been posted!
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...889d3a9179.png Looking at the post date, however, I don't think that's quite correct. Perhaps it was posted yesterday or today, but not "on Yesterday" ;) I don't know if this is something that can be fixed or is even worth fixing. Just wanted to mention it. -J. |
I’m not a software guy, but it’s pretty evident to me that the code defining that part of the display already has the “on” as the separator between the field where it drops the data from the “Title” and “Posted By” elements of the database and the field where it drops the “Post Date/Time” element
the only manipulation of the “Post Date/Time” data (dates actually in Julian format) is if either of two check-and-replace is true:
further (and to GW’s point), I’d guess that IB will have little to no interest in fixing this, as it’s either too deeply embedded in their overall architecture or (like more than a few other FT attributes) it’s unique to FT |
I have never seen this, but one could simply ignore the superfluous preposition. There are far worse grammatical errors in substantive posts.

very easy to miss |
Especially if one uses FlyerTalk solely on a cell phone, where I have never seen it once. :)

example is a screenshot from my iPhone, but I abhor the mobile skin
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |

This is essentially correct, yes. Mustering resources to make a change in core is always a challenge. Is it preferable that it is ALWAYS the date? That's an option (and the default one, based on our other sites). I'm still hesitant to change that, since you know how everyone can react to even the smallest changes
It is honestly not a big deal. Personally I would prefer the date as that would be more grammatically accurate, but like I said, it really isn't a big deal. -J. |

Yet I would very highly pleased if the posts had the actual dates rather than "yesterday" and "today". :tu: If for no other reason, it would reduce the number of times I ask myself what day it is. :D |
This thread has gone on long enough that it piqued my curiosity, so I consulted my dictionary. My dictionary says "yesterday" can be an adverb or a noun. As an adverb, it would be incorrect in the "on yesterday" phrase. As a noun, it would not be. Unless I'm missing something, based on my two-minute research and pondering, "on yesterday" is not an incorrect usage, even if it does sound odd.
If it's up for a vote, I vote for absolute dates rather than relative dates. If relative dates are appropriate, I think "a week ago last Tuesday" and similar formations should be considered. |
I'd vote for dates that are not US style. So 19 Feb 2025 rather than Feb19, 2025.
It just goes to show that once you lift the lid to a potential change there's a long list of options. I'd also suggest it's all best left as it is. On Yesterday is hardly a showstopper. And it's not worth having an ARG 4 over it. |
