Blank threads - so frustrating
For the last month or so, when I try to open up a thread in Flyertalk from my iPad, it's blank. So incredibly frustrating.
I've been a member of Flyertalk for 20 years. Heck, I was one of the people who participated in the LatinPass 1,000,000 mile promotion and even met Randy Peterson when I was on that run at the Miami airport. I've been checking out Flyertalk pretty much every day for the last 20 years, typically on my iPad before I head to bed in the evening. I disabled any ad-blockers I had on my iPad and have rebooted it a few times since, but no luck. I've tried using Safari and Firefox, but no luck. I noticed that someone else on this forum is having the same issue, but he's sure it's because of his ad-blocking software, which I don't have. Any ideas what could be causing this? What can I do to fix it? I really would like to resume the Flyertalk reading habit I've had for a long time. It's just not convenient for me to check out Flyertalk using a computer. Thanks, Shelley |

Just to be clear, I'm unable to open any threads.
Here are two screenshots. The first is typical for anytime I try to open any thread. The second is the actual address of the page. I certainly hope you can figure out what might be going on. Which iOS version do you have? Seems to work fine on both desktop and my Android/Chrome.

I’m using an iPad, the latest updated iOS and Safari, and I can’t replicate this fault. I’d recommend clearing cache and cookies to start.
|
I am using an iPad Mini (2) Software version 14.2 (18B92).
I'll try erasing my cache and cookies and see what happens. |
The same happens for me on Safari on my mac. iMac running Big Sur. It has done this nonstop for weeks. Only since the upgrade to Big Sur. It does work in Chrome browser (hence being able to post this)
|
So I cleared my cache and cookies and also turned off some "content blocker" that I found was open when I went into my settings (no idea what that was or how long it had been there) and now I am able to see the threads using Safari (yea!), but not Firefox. I used Firefox before because there were many fewer ads. The ads when using Safari often block the content of the posts so I have difficulty actually reading the posts. But it's defiantly better than nothing.
Thanks for your help, Shelley |
I had been having the same issue with blank pages and found that the Hush content blocker I have installed was causing it. I've reported it to Hush. If you're seeing this, go into Settings > Safari > Content Blockers and see if there are any enabled. If there are, try turning them off. If that helps, see if the content blocker app has a way to specify domains that should be allowed and add flyertalk.com to the list. Sadly, Hush doesn't offer manually "allow lists" like this.
