FT keeps logging me out
 
Hi, all,

For years I’ve signed in to FT and remained logged in, on several devices. The most frequent device I use currently is an iPad with the most recent version of iOS for iPad, updated ~10 days ago.

3-4 days ago I find myself logged out when I am not active on a page for a couple of minutes, or if I open FT from a link - even just opening in another tab from a thread or post.

This is quite recent, and though I reviewed my settings in MyFlyerTalk - Your Control Panel, I can’t seem to get this repaired so I can remain logged in.

Likely it's a browser issue. Are you accepting cookies from the site? Are you browsing privately/incognito?

No changes to what I’ve been doing for years. But I’ll do some more looking. Thanks for replying, and Merry Christmas!

Are you using a VPN or other proxy service of some sort? Do you have your browser set to sync with the same kind of browser on other device(s)? Have you checked and fiddled with your iOS devices settings for the browser app you’re using while having this problem to see if adjusting the browser’s settings and restarting your device solves the problem? Have you cleared out any stored passwords for FT that may reside on your iOS device and/or on the iCloud?

Maybe try to use a newly installed browser of a different sort? Say using Firefox if you’ve been having this issue while using Safari for FT, or using Chrome if you’ve been using Safari (or Firefox) while having the problem.

An iOS update and/or app update has at times meant that I have to log back in (and repeatedly at that at times) to a site, but more often than not, this hasn’t been the reason that I have had to log in repeatedly. VPN/proxy use and browser sync settings have more frequently been the issue for me before when it comes to FT use. That and some kind of other weird stuff. But it’s been a long time since I’ve had this kind of thing knock me out as logged in.

And just like that, no updates to browser or OS, no changes in settings, it’s back to normal and not booting me out after minutes of inactivity.

And once again just like that, Friday afternoon took me back to being logged out automatically. :confused:

Good question. Nope, just my iPad.

There’s a difference, though.

1) Originally, I’d not be logged out. I could remain logged in overnight, for example, and the next day open another tab and remain logged in.

2) Then, I’d be automatically logged out after a few minutes of inactivity.

3) Last week, it was behaving like 1).

4) FT currently not allowing me to remain logged in for a (undetermined period) time, but may - at least this morning - is allowing me to remain logged in - but not if I open FT in another tab.

I’m puzzled, because during this time I’ve not made settings changes nor downloaded any updates to my iOS or Safari browser.

At least in its current conditions, it’s not interfering much with my moderation duties; under 2) it was definitely interfering with efficient use of my time performing moderator actions such as trimming threads, etc.

It’s not a major issue at the moment, though 2) was a PITA. Thank you all for chiming in with your suggestions and defining questions. Happy and prosperous 2020!

Do you have more than one browser tab opened up with FT and nothing in "private" mode/tabs in the Safari browser?

I have gotten into trouble over the use of multiple devices or tabs/browsers even when there should not have been any such trouble.

Could it be that FT/IB (or one of its suppliers) has a filter/setting of some sort that has you having this issue? Maybe a Cloudflare-type/-related issue? Maybe a setting in your FT profile?

I’ve made no changes, settings or updates, etc. And today it’s keeping me logged in.
