Political Advertising on FlyerTalk
I live in the UK where there is a general election in a few weeks.
I have just been shown a banner add for the Labour Party on this site. Does anyone else think this is inappropriate or am I just an old fossil? Do US politicians also advertise on FT? |

FT doesn’t even know exactly what ads are shown, as the ads are farmed out, and seemingly lots of objectionable stuff can be snuck in. |
Not the right forum to complain about ads on FlyerTalk. Technical Support & Feedback would be the place.

As far as I know, advertising on FlyerTalk is not controlled by FlyerTalk primarily, but rather by the companies paying FlyerTalk to place advertising. There are undoubtedly some prohibitions in place about pornography, scams, etc. but they seem fairly loose.
I’m sure one of the FT Administrators can clarify. |
So this is how advertising works on FT (and most other sites): Our sales team sells adspace. Any space they do not sell is filled by a third party, such as Google AdSense, which we do not control (although we have certain restrictions we can implement, like JDiver said). So they basically fill our remaining adspace based on a combination of our site demographics, geolocation, and individual users' browsing history.

This means FT has not chosen to block the AdSense Sensitive Ad category of Politics, correct?
Includes ads for political campaigns or candidates, ads addressing controversial social issues, ads referencing well-known politicians, and ads touching on events widely perceived to be political in nature, such as elections, protests, terrorist attacks, wars and conflicts. |
