Flyertalk Autoshrinking pages
When opening or moving to another page of a thread, FT autoshrinks the page and displays it at the far left at 20~35% of full screen view.
This happens using Chrome on iPad using desktop mode. |
Also using Safari on iPhone 6
Must have been a glitch -- not happening now for me in Safari for iPhone 6.
Mine shrinks to about 10% using Safari on iPad Air. Happens about 50% of the time, and "pinching out" doesn't work but about 10% of the time.
Still happening. Me thinks it is related to the banners on the right side of each page.
Auto-shrink still happening. Using iPad Air with Safari in "desktop mode" because mobile site is still a disaster.
And I thought I was the only one!
ipad using safari here. |
Still happening! Really a pain. Please fix this issue. I agree with Dieuwer that it is likely the ads causing the issue.

Hi guys, we're working on the resizing and think we've got it. Two questions to help us out:
1. Is this occurring while logged in or only while logged out? 2. Can anyone post screenshots? Specifically, you're seeing the right-side ads push the the posts over, correct? |

I have the problem on both iPad and iPhone. I am always logged-in so cannot comment whether it is only occurring after logging-in or not. Regarding the ads pushing the posts, in fact no. This surprised me because I never saw any "disruptive" content on the side that was pushing the main content aside. I hope you will find a solution quickly because this is very annoying. |
Always logged in.
Still happening as of this morning.
Can anyone post screenshots of this in occurrence? It appears to be different from our initial thoughts (where it was linked to being logged in/out).

I logged out briefly to get a screenshot of it - you'll notice how much white space there is to the right of the ad on the right side. This was with Safari on iPhone 5S.

This is the screenshot of it happening tonight on iPad Air in landscape mode while logged in.
Fantastic (er, to the extent that it helps us)! We'll investigate further.

Screenshot tonight on ipad (logged-in). I have to say, it happens less today.
I noticed tonight on my laptop that the real estate consumed by the delayed screen refresh was more tonight that previous nights. I use the dreaded ad blocking software whose name is anathema to Internet Brands. When I display "New Threads, I would have full screen used, then, an inch or so would be reclaimed on the right, though nothing was displayed there. Tonight it is 1.5-2 in.
I also see something similar to the above display on my iPad. I am pessimistic enough to believe that this reclamation of screen real estate is the slow, inexorable move to forcing ads on us. |
Happening 23 Mar when not logged in. I had this problem maybe 6 months ago, then it went away until a week ago, now affecting me 75% of the time on FT.

It looks like it's a bug in our code. Tech is working on it now!

Still happening. Happy to provide more screenshots or info if needed. It is truly bothersome as the resize doesn't always work so we end up struggling to read the page or sometimes just give up.
After not happening for the last 2 days, it's back with a vengeance tonight!
I got this infrequently before, outside the US. Now that I've came back to the US earlier this week, it's happening very frequently. Annoying.
Still happening.
Still happening.
Also " A problem happened with this webpage so it is reloading" at the top of the page under the banner. Page reloads but doesn't go back to where it was. Happens every 3 to 4 minutes. Started about two weeks ago and ONLY on FT. IPad Air, latest OS. FT used to be really great, now it doesn't work well at all. |
Not happening tonight, but constantly earlier today. Ipad Air 2, ios 10.2.1
Using Safari. |
For anyone still experiencing the problem after tech worked on it, they have recommended clearing your browser's cache/refreshing the page, and the problem should be resolved.
Seems to be repaired. Thanks so much for fixing it. For what it's worth, I didn't have to clear my browser's cache or refresh. Seems as though the tech sorted the issue.

After 10 days without any problem, this is happening again (iPad)
I'm using an iPad Air 2 with the latest iterations of iOS and Safari and am not seeing this, just to add to the record for Admin / Tech when they come to work on Monday.
iPad mini and iPhone se still showing flyertalk as a skinny strip down the left side of screen. Also, *lots* of intrusive pop up ad windows, logged in or not. Clearing cache, clearing history and cookies, norhing works.
After a week or more of normality, the shrinking pages are back on my ipad
Happening to me too on an iPad. Can't use the site.
ediemac and djmp, I've sent you some PMs to get a little more info on the auto-shrinking behavior.
And it's back
3 times in last 15 min. All different threads/fora. On iPad using current iOS. On my home network. Have screenshot if you need it of last incidence, but it looks like all the rest.
Still happening. IPad, not signed in.
