Search terms / words continue to show in red

Yesterday I did a search in the DL forum for "MSP" and "security". It found the thread I wanted and, as expected, those terms appeared in red in posts within that thread when I entered it from the search results page.

However, today I'm still seeing those same terms in red in at least every place they appear in the DL forum. This includes new posts that were made well after my search.

I'm using safari on an iPad2 with the full FT website. I think I restarted my ipad after the search, but I'm not sure.

ADDED: It seems to be happening throughout FT, not just on the DL forum. Just now I saw red for the words "MSP" and "security" in this post.

ADDED AGAIN: After my edit above, the red disappeared on this post.

Never seen it. Must be a bad cookie.

When I search on a keyword within a post, the word is bold and highlighted in red.

In this thread, I searched for security. What I got (and get normally) is:

"Yesterday I did a search in the DL forum for "MSP" and "security". It found the thread I wanted and, as expected, those terms appeared in red in posts within that thread when I entered it from the search results page."

After I replied with this post, its back to:

Using Safari with the latest iOS iteration on my iPad Air II.

When I look at your post now--not having done a search for well over 24 hours--I see every instance of the words "MSP" and "security" in red, including in my post that you quoted.

Did you just edit it? My quote and your post are different, with the fourth and fifth paragraphs now gone from your post, although now the only red I see is the word security once, in the third paragraph of my quote of your post.

I believe I did edit.

With search, I get the bolder, red search terms in posts. As soon as I perform an edit or reply function, the highlighting is gone.

Not for me. I still see the words "MSP" and "security" in red in this thread, very time they appear.

ADDED: When I first made this post, there was no red in it, but the red appeared (and did not disappear elsewhere) when I refreshed.

When I edited it just now (the two lines above this one), the red was gone, but reappeared when I clicked to edit the post again.

Then the red was all gone again from this post when I clicked "save" to edit it again, but once more when I reloaded the page, the red in this post returned (and did not disappear from earlier posts).

The only red words I'm seeing are those that are so formatted, like here. I wonder if this might not be related to cache or cookies?

This is also happening on another VB site so I think we should be able to fix.

Mary2e May 30, 2016 12:33 am

This happened to me about a month ago. Logging out and in again cleared it up for me.

IBobi Jun 1, 2016 5:14 pm

Anyone still seeing this issue?

lol yes.

the letter X by itself is highlighted for me. But not in this post for some reason. (ETA, it is highlighted now also, but not after an edit of a post in that post. I have to refresh the thread and it's highlighted.)

A while ago, I think I searched the united forum to find the "Mileage Plus X" thread.

I'm probably not going to bother to clear ft cookies/content or log out/in just for this.

I'll find an example and post an image of it.

First attachment is when viewing this thread, but not when viewing it as a single post:

2nd example is post 1 in this thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/trave...ng-vs-nat.html

I think this is where I first noticed it and quoted the post to see if it was in the post or just what I was seeing. It's not in the post. But it certainly had me wondering about it. When I saw it again in that Hawaiian Airlines thread, I decided to search for it.

just saw this when browsing posts in the United forum ... :o

Just logging out and in again took care of the problem. I didn't have to clear my cache or cookies.

Previous search terms now show in red in all posts, threads, and fora?

I had previously done a forum search for three specific words and now those three words are highlighted in red in every post, in every thread, in every forum where they are used.

Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks.

"Fraud" displayed in red in posts

A few days ago I was reading a thread and noticed that every occurrence of the word "fraud" was in bold red letters. At first I assumed that poster had done that, until I saw it was formatted identically in posts from other posters. I didn't think much of it until reading this thread. Just randomly did a Google search for "fraud site:flyertalk.com" and see the same is occurring in other threads. In fact, I've done no formatting to this post (save the hyperlink) and I'm fairly certain that the word fraud will appear in bold red. Are others seeing the same thing?

No, the only time I get highlighting like that is when I do a search for the term.

chgoeditor Apr 12, 2017 5:51 pm

So weird. I've actually had terms appear in red when I've searched for them, but I definitely didn't search for "fraud" at any time in recent memory, and certainly not today. A few other FT friends privately confirmed they're not seeing it either, so it appears my browser has a thing about fraud in particular.

Right, just to prove that it must just be your system or FT handle, down at the bottom of this post is a screenshot of what it looks like to me.

Does the URL for this page look like this?
Code:

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/technical-support-feedback/1836304-fraud.html
If so, try just deleting "-fraud" from the URL and hit enter and see if it goes away.

This happened to me with a different word a while ago. At some point, you must have searched for the word fraud.

The way I got rid of it was to log out and back in to FT. It hasn't happened since.

Yes, the URL looks like that, because the URL for any thread incorporates the thread title. Deleting the word fraud from the URL takes me to a page that doesn't exist.

If you look at the link in my original post, the word fraud does not appear in the URL, yet I still have the issue:

Logging out, clearing cookies and logging back in again does not work, however when I logged into FT from my work computer, the word did not appear in bold red. So it appears that it's unique to my account and my personal Windows laptop running Chrome.

Mary2e Apr 14, 2017 6:38 am

Hmmm... your personal computer is holding it somewhere. Worked like a charm for me and a few others who have asked the question since.

I am seeing the same thing on my work computer but not on my home computer. I have logged out and on and have rebooted my system. Running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit (latest update) and Chrome 64 bit Version 59.0.3071.115

Any suggestions?

That is way too much overkill. That will require the user to have to redo all passwords, auto completions, etc.

What you guys need is something you can give out to delete the vbseo_highlighing cookie. After I did that (courtesy of Chrome's developer tools) it was all good.

LIH Prem Jun 28, 2017 4:34 pm

It had no expiration date. Thanks for hunting that down.

It was pretty easy. Once I figured out how to navigate the developers console to the files, it was a cookie whose value was the highlighted text. Deleted the cookie and it was all good.

Developer tools -> Application -> Cookies -> do a reverse sort by name, delete vbseo_highlighting

Already posted. What FT needs to do is to put an expiration date in the cookie or really delete all of its cookies on logout.

Already posted without specific instructions, which I was adding to save others the hassle of trying to find. Also, correcting a typo in the name of cookie to save others the headache of searching and erroneously thinking no such cookie existed on their computer.
