Posting a picture / image; how to add or embed an image or video in a post
HOW TO EMBED IMAGES: See tutorial information in posts 1 - 4.Not every Forum accepts the embedding of images; for those that do, please follow the FlyerTalk Rules. From the FlyerTalk Rules:
8. Posting of Images link to this rule.
You may embed non-animated images in your posts. Your images must conform to all FlyerTalk content rules, must convey relevant, on-topic information and are not allowed in signature lines or user profiles other than in the space designated in your profile for your picture. (See also, Rule 2 — User Profiles.) Please size your images large enough to get your point across but not so that they distort FlyerTalk standard column widths.

If your image fails to load, the first thing to try is clearing your browser’s cache.
NOTE: At this time, embedding animated images is not allowed (see this link to the FlyerTalk rule).
(Posts with embedded or attached videos, files or images made here as tests of how this works will routinely be deleted for systems efficiency.

View Screen Capture
It solves the problem of mega images by auto sizing them, but to illegible thumbnail size

I'm in agreement. The thumbnail images are annoying and disruptive. I'm all for automatic resizing of the excessively large images we sometimes see, but down to standard size, not thumbnail.

If this enhancement is around to stay, add me to the list of folks who won't post or read another trip report.
Eagerly awaiting a fix so I can post my summit photos from Kilimanjaro.

This is one of the dumbest ideas from FT in a long time.
Who wants to click on 100 thumbnails in a detailed report to get to full report??
I post detailed trip reports with 100's of pics on both FT and my own site SFO777.com.
Until today, I had chosen to virtually duplicate the same content on both sites.
I will now only post a teaser trip report on FT (the bare minimum to meet TR guidelines) and direct all traffic to my own site for the complete report.

This was tried once when images were first introduced (I was a mod at that time and running the Travel Photography forum so was intimately involved). The decision made at that time was to not do it and rather to use moderation and the general social norms of the community to encourage images no larger than ~800x600. And, quite frankly, it has worked for years.
If anything, access to more and better bandwidth is increasing, not decreasing, at this point. Ditto for larger and higher resolution screens.

I will no longer be posting any trip reports or reading any until this change is removed. I am furthermore disinclined from posting hotel reviews or meal pictures.
I consider all of the above a way that I and others add value to this website. This change restricts the adding of value to Flyertalk and therefore strikes me as a negative change.

It seems that IB has lately been making decisions for FT that they think are important yet actually make FT less desirable/more intrusive/less user friendly to actual FTers & are driving some FTers away.
Cheers.
