I received a bizarre spammy PM from a user named "NineLives" - no links, but seemed to be some type of dating spam - but with the links missing.

Thanks. Neither you nor any other member will be hearing from NineLives, though we hope the spammer won't return in another life. I'll ask IBgkim to delete this person's PMs.

Here comes another spammer in Korean!

He just started it in ID Forum & MilesBuzz (RBPed):

Promoting for ......... m, 10 posts and counting.

Thanks; keep those reports coming, we will continue swatting, Admin will block IP addresses that generate these but are not those used by legitimate FlyerTalk members. There's the rub, unfortunately.

I just forward an inappropriate PM by a brand new FT member.

ADDED: That was quick. The person is now suspended on the very same day that she joined.

This is the message I got:

"HELLO
how are you today
My name is Miss Dominika
i saw your profile now
and i pick interest in you as friend to share important discussion with you as friend so contact me through my email addresses
([email protected]) or send me your own email for
picture and other discussion ok
i wait for your respond and have a nice day"

Except for the name, this is a bit mild compared to the PM I got.

It's a good thing that PMs are limited for new members.

BTW, what's the best way to deal with this? I noticed a green dot that an admin was online at this time and forwarded the PM to that person, but can senior mods also handle these things?

Any moderator can suspend any person, so any mod who is online should be able to help. Though the Senior Mods are the ones who volunteered for this kind of dirty work, so try them first. :p

Mods only have permissions to edit posts/threads in the forums they are assigned to moderate, but a suspension is done from a separate screen and any mod can suspend anyone if time is of the essence.

In this case, in retrospect the time probably didn't matter so much as I suspect that the person joined FT, sent the maximum allowed number of PMs by a new member, and then might have logged off right away to wait for responses by email.

Five PMs already sent isn't such a big deal, but fifty new threads advertising some hookers would me.
