I noticed that in people's profiles, there's a tab called "map". I notice a very plain Google Map in my own.

I suppose you can use it to display your location, or where you've been.

How do I edit this map?

The map will display any hotel reviews you make

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hotelreview/map

As well as hotel you have favorited using the review tool.
