Has not been working for me for a few days.

cblaisd Sep 15, 2002 8:24 pm

Craig,

Mail sent to your address bounces too. I've sent you a couple this weekend and gotten an immediate "no such user" message.

Don't know if that's relevant or not, but....

dan at WebFlyer Sep 16, 2002 9:28 am

I'll go check it out... I haven't gotten any notice from them about downtimes.

Stephen loves Starwood Sep 16, 2002 2:35 pm

They've been down since Friday evening.

I have no log-in access.

It looks like there are some contract issues that are being worked on between us and them; I'm awaiting more news about it myself...Sorry for the sudden outage.

Oz, MileMail is a free web-based email system we launched a couple years ago through an email ASP for frequent flyers, but we haven't been accepting new subscribers for a while; they switched their software, and now don't support Linux, which is what our servers use.

Still down---Any news?

Thanks,

Not working here either.

dan at WebFlyer Sep 23, 2002 10:39 am

Sorry about the prolonged downtime... I've been told that it's still being worked on.

Kremmen Sep 28, 2002 4:42 am

For what it's worth, I just tried to email someone with a frequentflyer.net address and it bounced. Unfortunately, this outage means that some people on this board are now uncontactable unless/until they change the email address in their profiles.

mike turnbull Sep 30, 2002 7:31 am

Sorry, I posted this question in the wrong forum re.,
'frequentflyer.net'
Does this mean that my messages have been lost for the past few weeks ? Or are they stacked up somewhere ?

A real pain this downtime of milemail. When I called them they told me that indeed any receipt of mail is being bounced back to sender.

I've lost a lot of contacts and we're now heading into the fourth week.

The only good that has happened is a lesson I have finally learned. I am now going into all my Web-based e-mail service providers and if there is any e-mail that I would like to keep (but not print) I am forwarding them to myself at a pop3 account so at least I will have the e-mails regardless of accessibility.

It's too bad but I really liked milemail, it had everything going for it: The address was very apt for me (frequentflyer), the absence of pop-up ads was fantastic, the great layout when printing (vs. the horrible configurations of mail.- yahoo.com, etc.) and the quick sign-ins. It all worked well. So much so that I would've paid for the service: Reliability of course being the key word.

Edited for one misplaced punctuation

Still haven't heard anything about MileMail... Randy has told me to direct questions about it to him at [email protected]

I have a number of web-based email accounts. The only ones I use to any extent now are ones which have an auto-forwarding option. (... this is getting very rare, I'm afraid.)

This way, there's another copy of every email I get on a Unix server elsewhere. Also, a lot of the time when web-based email systems go wrong, it's the web front end that's dead. The mail processing part may still be forwarding email on to your other account in those situations.

Any update please ?

Randy Petersen Oct 9, 2002 9:40 am

What seemed to be a simple outage at our provider - Critical Path - has turned out to be a day-by-day list of excuses for why we aren't back up yet. While one of the largest providers of email solutions, they are a dot.com disaster and i think some of their executives even went to prison. Hate to bad mouth them because for two years they haven't been too bad with service. We've gotten a different answer from them almost daily - including that they may have flushed out their backup of us and all the old email is not able to be brought back up. This despite the fact that they say on their Web site they have all this backup. Something is wrong, really wrong and even though we don't own that end of the business, still feel sorry since as users of the service we are suffering the same.

I chatted yesterday with another company to take things over but these things don't happen overnight. If there is a way for you to re-route your email, I'd do it since i have not gotten answers that i now feel comfortable banking on from Critical Path.

In the big picture, it realy doesn't matter about Critical Path. I'll take full responsibility for this and if any of you want to throw tomatoes, feel free.

Sorry to hear of all these "hassles", yet thanks very much for the update, Randy! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Randy, I just saw the official announcement that Milemail is discontinued. Is there anyway for me to retrieve my old email there?
Thanks.

markbach Oct 10, 2002 3:25 pm

Randy, I could set up a web-based email system for you, very inexpensively. Shoot me an email if you're interested.

Unfortunately, I don't think so...

Stephen loves Starwood Oct 17, 2002 8:27 am

I don't understand why we can't retrieve our old e-mail from a back-up.

The ideal situation would have been to reinstate the system for a short while, such as a week or two, which would have allowed people to do what they need to do (such as save, print, forward, retrieve e-mail addresses which they need, etc.). Then you could've retired the system with your heads held up rather than walk away ashamed.

Sorry, but this is unnerving.

It certainly is... Randy was going round and around with our "rep" over there, and they seem to have forgotten about that whole backup thing. I don't know if he resolved anything with it, but based on their lack of support, I doubt it.

mike turnbull Oct 21, 2002 4:22 am

So where's the contingency plan in all of this mess ? (ps 4000 miles to throw a tomato will take some throwing !!)

dan at WebFlyer Oct 21, 2002 10:41 am

We've started talking with another webmail hosting company, and they have ways to import other services' email, but again that depends on if Critical Path even saved ours. When Randy gets back I'm sure he'll have some more to add...
